Huh–I’ve never done upwards rappelling, but I’d have thought it was the other way round–big slabs of beef like Chad would be at a disadvantage because they’re pulling up 300 lbs of beef. Chad’s face was so red when he finally made it up that I thought his head was going to pop like a balloon.
Wouldn’t the challenge be easier the lighter you are?
Right, but that’s essentially saying, “They’d win it all if at least 50% of their team was different.” If your Dad is too elderly and frail to Race…why Race?
Not that I would expect a lot of people to know, but you’re not supposed to pull yourself up, you slide your arms up, then stand on the rope loops they give you. I think I saw all of one person do it that way. I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s easier then trying to pull yourself up.
I still haven’t been all that excited about this season. I Think it might be because my wife left and we’re the ones who watched it together. It’s not as exciting alone.
As mentally challenged as Nick and Vick are I had to give her props for her performance today. She smoked that bridge challenge. Couldn’t tell how long it took from the editing, but she seemed to really at least match the speed of the stronger guys. And then she just nailed that bike ride. They also are very encouraging of each other and don’t nag and bitch at the other one like the other guy/girl couples. Yes, they are dumb, but always entertaining.
I personally think that Kevin is very respectful of his dad and he just tells it like it is as far as physical ability is concerned. And, to be fair, Dad seems perfectly OK with Kevin’s assessment and is realistic about his abilities. I especially admired the way he was supportive of his dad when he wanted to give up on the running with the wheel in Ghana. I did notice that even though Dad said he would carry the chainsaw that at the cabin it was Kevin that was carrying it, so Dad probably gave out. Don’t think they have much of a chance with one partner carrying the greater load.
I would say that my favorite teams are Nat and Kat as well as Claire and Brooke. They stay positive and encouraging. I have to wonder how Kat would have done on the bridge challenge as it was very physical. Obviously Nat wouldn’t have done it as she has that fear of heights.
Thank you. My wife and I have said just about every one of those things about this team, with the possible exception of dad belting the punk in the teeth. It’s not that I hate the team, I just hate the way the son talks to his dad- he’s so disrespectful.
Did I hear Notre Dame’s partner say she went to cosmetology school?
Nat & Kat- way to man up and chow down on the greasy meats. Impressive for a 22-year vegetarian.
Yes, I am a shallow person, but I could not take my eyes off the hair on the blonde on Team Home Shopping Network. The extensions are not holding up well and it all looks a grubby mess.
I haven’t read this thread; just posting to complain that TAR was pre-empted for us last night due to thunderstorms :-(. Hoping to watch the whole episode online later this week.
I am really liking Team Home Shopping. They are growing on me. They seem like fun people to hang out with.
Now the blonde half of the Father/Daughter team–she is a chatterbox! Yeesh.
The Asian father and son seem to have a really good relationship. I don’t see the malice someone else says they saw.
And then there’s Team Stupid. Kudos on the bike riding and whatever the opposite of repelling is but even in the interview after the stress and anxiety of the race is behind you, you still don’t know what “Fast Forward Taken” means? Really?
Just how short is Mallory? There was one shot of her next to a male racer (maybe Kevin?) that made her look like a midget.
I was very impressed by Nat and Kat. They have some serious mental toughness and are very supportive of one another. I loved the whole “Do you want to get sick?” “No, let’s get to the Pit Stop first” exchange. Both of them had major issues with this leg of the race, and both of them managed to keep it together remarkably well.
Brooke and Claire are fast becoming favorites as well. I love how they truly do seem grateful to be able to go to all the cool places on the race, and take time to thank the locals when they can.
Glad that the volleyballers are gone. They were some serious mean bitches, and nowhere near as good as they thought they were.
I’ve got to wonder just how many more facial traumas Brooke & Claire are going to have to go through. They’ve had the worst time in the Race since Gretchen got hit in the face with a rock.
How did I (and everyone else) miss commenting on the best moment of the episode, where Gary and Kevin were complaining about the rappelling rig chafing their nuts?! I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of my chair.
