I asked DeHusband how he would handle being on a team of my dad and various in-laws. He thought it was a great idea, but only because my dad would have a stroke before they hit New Jersey. Then we had a long discussion of if the team could carry on *Weekend At Bernie’s * style or would have to drop out.
At least it is easier to tell the teams apart in the beginning this way. Overall I like how it’s started. I read somewhere that it is definitely shorter and more in the U.S. than other seasons, but not entirely in the U.S. The reasoning was that they didn’t want so much of the overnight stays in random ally ways and children wandering around in 3rd world marketplaces. Phil did mention that the children are an asset in some challenges. I think it might be nice to have challenges that need mental strength and teamwork over just youth and physical strength for a change. It is harder to pick teams that will do well right away, I think. Although I agree that Italian family is doomed.
One thing that should be easier with 4 is navigating, you can have one person driving, one map reading and 2 looking for landmarks and signs. Apparently some teams still can’t handle it though!
Next season is back to teams of 2, I saw an application.
I’ve been a race fan for the past few seasons and while not thrilled with the new family format, I think that the Gaghan family is actually going to do quite well and that it won’t be as uneven as many have predicted. Reasons:
The kids are young enough to still get along with their parents and do what they ask them to do. They are also young enough to still admire their parents and will really cheer them on.
Instead of having 4 people fighting to making decisions, you have 2, and it seems like mom and dad are pretty good at working together.
The parents are marathon runners and the kids run 5ks. How many of those older folk can run a 5k or a 7 minute mile? They’ve already one a foot race to the finish line, I see that happening again.
Kids can sleep anywhere, as witnessed by Carissa falling asleep while still in NY. That’s an advantage, they won’t get nearly as worn out as the other families, especially if they sleep while going from one place to another.
The kids seem pretty fearless, they’ll do all the gross/scary things before even thinking about it (one of the bonuses of not having the frontal lobes fully developed).
The family as a whole is well traveled, they don’t seem the type to freak out about weird situations or places, and know that Pennsylvania is indeed a state.
They’re cute so people along the way will help them out. Just like people helped out Charla because she was a little person.
They keep things fun and can really annoy the other teams in ways adults can’t. Singing “she’ll be coming around the mountain” is only acceptable for children.
Now I might end up being wrong. But I really think that this family will do well. I’ll be watching next week.
I got very bad, creepy vibes from him during the introduction. I don’t remember what he said, but his whole attitude of “I can be as rude and offensive as I want, because it’s just my sense of humor”, really rubbed me the wrong way. I know people like that, and not only do they NOT have a sense of humor, they fly off the handle at the slightest little thing. And did anyone else notice how after he would make one of his hilarious comments, he would look at the camera?
Oh! Can I please have that as a sig line? Not that I’m 100% sure how to create a sig line, but I’d really, really like it…and I’ll credit you, of course!
Well, to be fair, the family is alleging that Mr. Weaver was given the “green light” to enter the track area before it was actually safe. Gonna be hard to prove, of course, but right away I can tell you that 100 mph is WAY too fast to be driving during a caution flag! I wouldn’t call this a frivolous suit by any means. (Now, if the car only nudged him and he spilled coffee on himself…)
:smack: My bad. (I’m always mixing up teams in the beginning…)
The Blacks! I really liked them. They soothed me. Maybe they were too calm. But still, that’s a bummer.
I didn’t like the Rogerses in the introl. I did like most of the other teams. Loved “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain” under those circumstances. Funny kid.
'Zactly. I have a feeling there is going to be another “are-you-there-God?-it’s-me-rockle” exchange this season. And I think I’m going to start with Ma Weaver’s perm. If they win the million I hope she blows the whole wad on Frizz Ease.
Just wanted to let everyone know…I drove past the Rohrer family farm today after work… I just had to see it in person. Didn’t get out of the car, but I did drive past.
And we are doing it again on Sunday with a possible side trip to the detour outside of Mount Joy. I wonder why they didn’t choose Blue Ball or Intercourse instead?
Finally watched this and I enjoyed it, The first episode is never great in my opinion…to many teams to follow and the tasks are not too special. I actualy like that they will be spending time in the US and not relying on airports so much. The airports were always big bunching points, which can be annoying. I lke the kind of bunching they did here, groups leaving at different times and you get your time based on comleting a task. I also like that they aren’t at teh whimsey of taxis so much.
I was LOVING the Paolis…at first, but when it got really mean and it was bad and it would not be something I want to see much more of of.
That’s great to hear because I have to record House and watch TAR. I’ve flipped to Earl a couple of times for a total of maybe 5 minutes and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen so far.
Do you know if they’re doing the same with The Office, too? I’d hate to miss that one or flip back and forth and miss something on TAR.
Probably because they’d get so much dialogue that would be non-family-friendly that they didn’t want to do it on this edition. On a regular show, no problem (such as including all of the Chuck & Millie lines that were hilarious in the context of their virginity). But aiming this one at families, I can see that they didn’t want to force Mommy and Daddy to have to explain certain concepts to the Little Darlings.
Bravo is showing The Office right after Earl on Thursdays, according to my listings.
