Does anybody know if there’s a place or proper procedure for reporting problems with Kindle books? That is, problems with the text of the books themselves, not “technical” issues.
Specifically, in the book I’m currently reading every single word that begins with the letter “Q” is capitalized. I suspect this is related to the fact that one of the primary characters is named Quinton, and somebody working on the Kindle edition of the book did a search & replace using terms like “replace every ‘q’ at the beginning of a word with ‘Q’”, instead of the more correct “replace ‘quinton’ with ‘Quinton’”.
It’s distracting, to say the least, largely because in this genre (fantasy) it’s not unusual to capitalize “generic” words when they have some kind of mystical or other significance, so seeing these words capitalized makes me subconciously think they’re indicating something more important than they actually are.
I ran into another text problem with a free version of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, where whoever created the Kindle edition used the wrong character encoding, with the result that the British “pound sterling” symbol is replaced with a string of gibberish every time it appears, and every time Holmes or Watson says something in French the French words are rendered unreadable by the strings of gibberish where the French-specific characters and diacriticals should be.
Anyway, I’m not sure whether this is something I should report to Amazon, or to the publisher, since I’m not sure who’s responsible for actually creating the Kindle version of a book.
Mods, if this should be in Cafe Society, please feel free to move it
