We assumed it was an actual Entling. I’m pretty sure that is what we saw. But Entwives could have been nearby.
At one point I delve into any mention of Entwives I could find. All we know is the separated from the Ents in the 2nd age and probably got wiped out in the War of the Last Alliance when their lands became the Brown Lands.
But at around 1600 Second Age, the split might not have happened yet or happened fully. The only thing we know about the year for sure is we’re in the second age before the Forge to make the rings of power was even built.
Technically Annatar first appeared around 1500SA. Eregion and Celebrimbor were destroyed 1697SA.
Pretty sure the lady dwarves with beards thing can be laid at Terry Pratchett’s feet, especially embodied by Cheery Littlebottom, introduced as a male but who keeps her true gender a close secret–but she likes being all girly while still retaining her dwarvish beard. As PTerry put it:
All dwarves have beards and wear up to twelve layers of clothing. Gender is more or less optional.
I’ve always assumed that the female dwarves all having beards was just Peter Jackson or Sean Bean poking a bit of fun at another fantasy great–and someone who would enjoy the shout out on every single level.
I’m not a Tolkien geek. My reads of The Hobbit and of the The Lord of the Rings were decades past and could never stay awake past a few pages of The Silmarillion. Watched the trilogy movies once and never The Hobbit ones.
Long winded way to say this will grab me or not of its own accord. I won’t be guessing by knowledge of lore, or judging by accuracy to canon.
Bored beyond belief for the first half of the first ep. Unimpressed with the FX: thought it looked like a computer game and lots of the movements somehow seemed off. Enough that it was distracting. Some things should have more sense of solidity, heft?
And the dialogue felt stilted and unnatural. It was coming off like Star Wars The Phantom Menace.
But it definitely picked up by the end of ep 1 and through ep 2. The harfoots have character and the plot began to engage.
FWIW Galadriel jumping off the boat made perfect sense to me. It was impulsive like cold feet at the altar realizing it was a bad choice but pretty sure she felt she could swim the distance if she had to.
And I’ll be disappointed if Nori’s sense of her having a destiny that including helping meteorite man turns to causing something bad.
I’d be interested to know the source of that knowledge. There is no actor of that name listed on the IMDB page for this series, although of course they might have done that on purpose. Also, he has no credit for this series on his own IMDB page. So if they are trying to keep it that dark, I wonder who spilled the beans.
When TheRings of Power dropped a new trailer at San Diego Comic-Con in July, fans found a leading contender for Sauron: A new, mysterious character with villainous vibes and a close-cropped, bleach blonde haircut that fans on Twitter hastened to point out was reminiscent of Eminem’s iconic look. Fans quickly decided that this character was being played by actor Anson Boon. They’re wrong on that count. While reporting my recent cover story for TIME about The Rings of Power, Weber exclusively shared that the actor in that trailer had been misidentified. The mysterious person is played by Bridie Sisson, who previously starred in Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop.
But back to the Slim Shady lookalike. Could Sisson’s mysterious character be Sauron in disguise? I’m skeptical: The character appears to be too obviously evil—furrowed brow, hood pulled up, with a scowl on her face. It also seems like Sauron’s reveal wouldn’t come in a trailer but during some pivotal moment in the show itself. But this new character could be one of his servants, or someone else significant.
So not Joseph Mawle (the actor) but also not Sauron/Annatar (says this commentator).
I went back and rewatched that meteor scene for the ents - it is possibly an entling, but in that case, the two larger Ents/Entwives with it are way more treelike than I’d prefer.
Is anyone else annoyed that the main Harfoot is named “Nori”? Eighty bazillion names to pick from/make up, and they use the name of one of the minor dwarves from “The Hobbit”? Every time they say her name I mentally add Ori & Dori.
I want to do that, but I can’t seem to navigate back to episode 1, all I can get is episode 2… I am new to Amazon Prime Video and I just don’t see how to do it.
Never mind, found it somehow, not sure if I would be able to do it again.
