Yeah, watching the decline of brave, ambitious, and proud men into slavish nazguls could have been very dramatic. Pretty sure we won’t get that show.
We still could, perhaps in the 2nd season.
And to be fair…it could be a flashback thing. A whole episode devoted to one guy, maybe played by someone a little more famous then our regular crew.
Unlikely, but possible.
No kidding. I guess Galadriel felt 2 somehow created a disbalance that 3 solved? I have no idea what any of that means or how she would/could know.
Eh, The Nazguls have always been one dude with eight backup singers to me (even if we do know the name of one of the other ones). I’d be happy with a montage, but that’s about all I need.
If the tall guy isn’t Gandalf, but he drops that line about the nose, that’s just shitty misdirection.
Do we have confirmation of a 2024 date for season two? That would suck. We are also getting that War of the Rohirrim anime in April that year, so it’ll be a bit of a dry spell and then a bunch of stuff.
It does mean they diverged from Sauron’s intended design, which may have acted as a sort of level of obfuscation for them.
He’s an elf, not a man, so doesn’t seem likely
Y’all realize there are five confirmed seasons for this show, right? Plenty of time for all kinds of stuff to happen.
.
Well, maybe they skipped over that.
I was so totally wrong about both The Stranger and Halbarand, I hesitate to make another prediction- The Stranger could be one of the Blue Wizards whose quest did lie in Rhun.
BUT Screenrant here claims that Gandalf around this early was hinted at by JRRT, and they are sure he is Gandalf-
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is largely inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s notes and appendices on the history of Middle-earth, and in the essay “Glorfindel” he hints that Gandalf (also called by the name Olorin) had visited Middle-earth before the Third Age seen in The Lord of the Rings, traveling among the people and becoming "acquainted " with them. Tolkien finished these notes on Gandalf the Grey’s forgotten history with the words "…nothing is said of this, " but later amended it to "…nothing has yet been said of this. " The Rings of Powers is showing Gandalf in his previously untold past, including an adventure in the lands of Rhûn.*
They explained why Three is critical. And it would be easy to think that the Deceiver, being unmasked by Galadrial, would just run off with his tail between his legs. But that was also a Deception.
So … There are lots of things i like about this show. But there are two big things i dislike
- every time anyone interacts with the physical world, i have trouble suspending disbelief
For instance, the boats are all wrong, people travel too quickly, melting a dagger made of lots of stuff to get “pure” metals, there seems to be a confusion between ore and metal, Galadrial drowning looked relaxed with bubbles gently drifting from her mouth, the volcano didn’t kill anyone, and did i mention the boats being all wrong?
- Galadrial is a stupid spoiled princess with no insight and genocidal tendencies. I really liked Galadrial in the books. I looked up to her as a wise and kind demigod. I just can’t reconcile that with the Galadrial in this series.
I said the same thing multiple times and even quoted Tolkien’s essay here.
I got the impression that the volcano killed a lot of people since they showed a bunch of bodies afterward.
And we are supposed to think that it killed Isildur.
Okay, it didn’t kill everyone. They should all have died. Galadrial, Sauron, every character in the Southlands.
The hobbits… Shouldn’t have been in range of anything.
Shouldn’t Frodo and Sam have died if they were as close to the lava as shown in the Return of the King movie? Maybe Middle Earth lava isn’t nearly as hot and deadly.
Also less dense. Gollum has about the density as water. He should have floated quite easily on the molten rock. I think Middle Earth lava is pretty much just glowy orange water.
I was thinking he should have broken every bone in his body landing that way…then caught on fire…
So i havent been watching closely…just you guys for (mostly…half?) people who are enjoying themselves, and balance that out with the YT hate-watchers.
But I was watching The Temptation of Galadriel and…ok first of all thats not the real one is it? The reason she was barred from the Undying Lands? I thought that was established, whatever happened there. And then she passes Frodos Test and says she can leave.
Anyway…I was looking at Sauron and getting Tom Hiddleston vibes, and thought they should have got Tom. But then that would have been a ridiculously kept secret. Moreso then it already was. Maybe get Tom later for Bombadil!
Loki as Sauron is very appealing.
