Amazon MGM takes creative reins of James Bond, ending an era of family control of 007

Well Amazon will provide the budget to allow for some amazing production values.

So there’s that.

I think I’d look to the DC Batman universe for inspiration, specifically The Penguin. The franchise benefits by showing more of its universe, whether that universe is placed back in Cold War days or some version of current times.

I think Bond is best served when they just ignore any kind of continuity between the films like they did back in the 1960-70s. Sure, same characters, but a clean slate at the start of each story. Heck, make it a practice to recast after every single film. Then we get the female Bond, Black Bond, Spider-Bond, Lego Bond…

James Bond: Into the Bond-Verse

Does Amazon have that as its track record? I mean I was not taken by its Lord of The Rings prequel, but they weren’t too much too fast. Just not characters I really cared about.

Bond:
aight, i get it, dripfinger
thx for the ted talk 🙄

Dripfinger:
watch ur mouth, bond, that next joke might be ur last
two l's already, i ain't tryna make it three

Bond:

Dripfinger:

Which was basically a retooling of You Only Live Twice (with a little dose of The Spy Who Loves Me) which itself was just a high budget version of Dr. No. There are basically only three or maybe four Bond plots.

…Noir Bond (B&W), Pavitr Bind from never-became-independent India, Moneypenny Bond from then universe where Bond died, reverse vampire Bond…

US makes serious moves to annex Canada. Britain does not make much of a fuss or protest. M, who spent a couple of wonderful, formative years in Canada, acting without orders from or knowledge of their political masters, sends in Bond to straighten the Americans out.

Ah, but does they retain his “License to Kill”?

That isn’t going to get good reviews in the US but I bet it plays like gangbusters in China.

Is it too much to hope for a James Bond / Johnny English crossover movie?

James Bond: Vampire Hunter

I wanted to see a Q, M, Moneypenny series without Bond. And movies about other 00- Agents casting all those dream actors who come up in polls all the time. But I still wanted Bond himself to remain sacrosanct and carefully cultivated.

A period piece is the only interesting idea I’ve heard in regards to Bond. I’ve seen every Bond movie but I’m more of a casual fan. In more recent years, recent defined as 1995, I’ve grown to enjoy the Bond movies less and less. I really liked Goldeneye, but I didn’t care for any of the Brosnan movies and it wasn’t because he did a bad job. I enjoyed the first two or three Craig movies, but Spectre was a mess and I was glad they killed Bond off in No Time to Die. Sometimes I think it’s best to just let a franchise die, but we can’t let that happen so long as money can be squeezed out of it.

I agree about the bridge scene. It takes up about one-third of the book, and if you don’t know how to play bridge, you’d find it confusing and most likely boring. I know how to play, so I found it interesting, but I’m sure that few would.

One book that really hasn’t been touched in the films at all is The Spy Who Loved Me. The title has been used, of course, but that film’s story bore absolutely no relation to the plot of the book. It’s one of the strangest of the Bond books, since Bond doesn’t appear at all until the last third. But it’s a good taut thriller, and I think it would make a good movie.

I think they’ll drop the M character, and when Bond needs some new tech, he’ll order it from Amazon. With free shipping via Prime.

I am Number Two. You are Number 007.

Bond sleeping his way through the Village would be interesting.

Maybe I’m just being a bit cynical, given what Dusney have done to other huge film series. I didn’t bother with the Lord of the Rings spinoff so I can’t really say if that was any good, but I avoided it because it wasn’t overly well received.

You’ve given me an idea for a meta/in-joke they could make… have a film, or more likely part of a TV series, where MI6 is trying to recruit to a vacancy in the 00 section, and they just can’t find the right person for the job. Gives a chance for a load of cameos which could be funny.

Ok, it’s a terrible idea.
