Amazon - Twelve days of Kindle

Anyone else taking advantage of this offer? Here’s the list of books I have picked up at £0.99 each

The Pig That Wants to be Eaten - Julian Baggini
Written in Stone - Brian Switek
How I Caused the Credit Crunch - Tsteuya Ishikawi
The Epigenetics Revolution - Nessa Carey
The End Specialist - Drew Magary
How to Teach Quantum Physics to Your Dog - Chad Orzel
The Etymologicon - Mark Forsyth
Do Polar Bears Get Lonely - New Scientist
Looking forward to reading them!

I just got a Kindle for Christmas and was very excited when I opened the thread, but upon Googling it looks like this is only an Amazon UK thing. Bah.

Although, you guys do speak a dialect similar to that of the American language which may even be legible in its written form. Would I, as an American, be allowed to download books off Amazon UK? All the prices are listed in a funny currency so I’m not sure it would work. (and if not maybe a mod should change the thread title to read “Amazon UK” so the rest of us don’t get our hopes up).

For us Americans, Amazon has the Kindle Daily Deal. They also have the 100 under $3.99 every month. So it’s not like we don’t have options for cheap books.

You don’t even have to own a Kindle to take advantage of Kindle-format books. You can read them via their Kindle program for computers (there’s one for PC, not sure about Macs), or mobile (smartphone/tablet) platforms running Android OS or iOS.

There’s an equivalent deal in the US. It’s the special offer today on the Kindle. The titles are “selected from winners of the Nobel prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer prize, Hugo & Nebula Awards, and Newbery Medal.” (I mentioned this because, lets face it, 99% of the $1 books are pretty lame. I’m not so hard up for reading material I need romance novels rejected by harlequin and “christian inspiration”).

You tap "email me this offer " to get the details. If you have not yet seen the offer, check your offers or turn on your wireless for new offers.

Or click the link I posted above.

What I’m talking about is different from the daily deal.. The Daily Deal is always present and changes daily. The current Kindle Special offer is a special code you get by email to buy one of the 25 listed titles for $1 (not 0.99 for some reason). You have to request the code by 1/7 and use it by 2/7.

Sounds like some good deals!

Moving to Cafe Society.

Lots of good deals, including free books, posted here daily

Hello Again, is there any way to get it without the special offers on the Kindle?

I believe Amazon now allows those in the US who have a Kindle without special offers to opt in (and out again if you choose) to display the special offers. Go to ‘Manage Your Kindle’, select ‘Manage Your Devices’, then click edit next to Unsubscribed.

Heh. I suspect at least the first 15 reviews are from friends and/or family, 'cause I downloaded some real stinkers, many of which were only .99 cents or I woulda caught hell. Then again, I downladed some .99 centers which I thought deserved a higher price, so I really like the sample option.

Q

I can be a techtard, and this is one of those times. Does this mean I can somehow get these books onto my Nook? It sounds like I could get them on my iPod Touch, since I have the Kindle App (I opted to return the Kindle after being unimpressed with their Browser capabilities). Is that correct?

Certainly on your iPod Touch App. Heh that’s kind of like returning your car cos you don’t think it makes good toast!

Ah! I’ve never heard of that, and I’ve had a Kindle since the first generation. I wonder why I don’t get it?

Amazon introduced new Kindles with Special Offers (screen ads) last year at a discounted price ($79/99). Only Kindles that are subscribed to those ads can take advantage of the special offers. Near the end of last year Amazon started allowing people with 3rd generation and up ad-free kindles to opt in and get the offers.

Definitely on the Touch (I have my Kindle books on my PC, iPhone, and iPad) - dunno about the Nook, though. This comparison of Kindle vs Nook vs tablets says no Kindle books on Nook.

How? I have a Kindle Fire, never saw the option for this.

I believe you have to change settings within “Manage your Kindle” on the amazon.com website, as described here:
http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1D7SY3BVSESG&cdThread=Tx29VCA8YPML9M8

It doesn’t appear to be an option for the Kindle Fire. I just checked under “Manage Your Kindle” and Special Offers is listed as an option for my Kindle 3 but not for my Fire.
