Michael Heiden is. Mr. Heiden is a restaurant owner who filed an applicaion to trademark the phrase “World Trade Center” for future TV or production use.
Mr Heiden filed his application at 2:40PM on September 11, 2001.
While you and I were in shock and grief over the terrorist attacks that would end up causing the deaths of 6-7,000 people, Mr. Heiden was apparently thinking “hmmm. bodies falling out of windows…airlines crashing into buildings…ems personnel losing their lives when they rush to help…I WANT some of that action”
What a waste of skin.
yah, what a waste of skin…
hmmm…
give me some nail-clippers, i’ll go get it back.
JEEZ! it has his address on it!
He was on the UPI (I think; I get too many damn news sources) today saying that he trademarked it so that he could hoard it, preventing others from utilizing it.
I’ll leave it to others to decide whether he was telling the truth.
I’m a bit surprised it wasn’t already trademarked prior to 11 Sept.
Some of the big anti-porn organisations routinely register domain names they think might be used for trafficking kiddy-porn to stop other people being able to use them. I guess it’s possible this guy is telling the truth (though why NYC didn’t trademark it for exactly the same reason is beyond me).
It just occured to me that if this guy is legitimate there would have to be some way by which he could gift or assign the trademark rights to a government body.
