Interesting film,. I haven’t quite understood it yet & havent completed it, so no spoilers.
BB rental stores usually sell new but used dvds for around ten bucks after a week.
Sweet, I’d forgotten about this! Amelie’s one of my favorite movies, but why is the VHS version so much?
My copy from Netflix should be arriving today- I cannot wait! I saw it once in the theater, and it was definitely the best movie I’ve seen all year. Only lack of funds kept me from turning around, buying another ticket, and seeing it again.
I imagine the VHS is ‘priced to rent,’ to make money for the video stores. I expect an affordable video will be released eventually.
It’s a rental price, The Wrong Girl. The studio figures it’ll make more money selling it to Blockbuster on VHS than direct to the consumer. Used to be that way for almost all movies.
I suppose the marketing guys figured that most of the people who will buy the movie outright have DVD players. Since Circuit City’s stopping the sale of VHS movies as well, they’re probably right.
There are occasional ominous rumbles from studios wanting to go to rental pricing for DVD. I’m pretty sure the bootleg makers are all in favor of that kind of move.
On the film, now: Netflix got one to me far faster than I expected, and about all I can say is, wow. I can’t recall the last time a movie just had me grinning so much. I came fairly close to just buying it sight unseen based on recommendations, and I now I wish I had, because it’ll be joining my library forthwith.
