Amendment to Do Not Call List

I’m starting this out in IMHO, but if the Mods deem it necessary, move it to the Pit. My vitriol is weakened without the proper amount of cussing, so I’m cussing as though it were the Pit. Nevertheless, I’m quite serious about my campaign.

OK, I’ve got this idea for an amendment to the Do Not Call List. I am one of those Nazis who cannot stand telemarketers. I hate them. They could be shilling for saving the last fertile human and I don’t give a fuck. DO NOT CALL ME. So, I’m wondering if it would be possible to pass legislation to force all telemarketers with robotic call menus to add two more choices which are always available at the same numbers. Choice 6 is DO NOT CALL ME AGAIN EVER. Choice 8 is I’m on the GOD DAMN DO NOT CALL LIST and the call goes directly to a government database that logs the illegal call. You can still, of course sue the bastards, but this will help stop those fucking robotic telemarketers. By the way, I’ve heard that there has been 29 successful suits since the Do Not Call List began. This seems low to me. All telemarketers will be taxed to support the overhead of this system at a per call rate.

This rant is triggered by those assholes from Dove.org who want to censor movies and crush artistic freedom. They called me every Monday for 7 weeks (Asking for the “Lady of the house”), so finally I answered the phone and waited patiently for a human representative and told her very politely, “I’m on the No Call List. Stop fucking calling me every damn week.” Surprisingly, they’ve stoped calling me.

So, are you with me, or against me?

You’re not solving the root cause, you are only addressing the symptom.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

But what if all the telemarketers hid in the Mariana Trench for about 20 minutes? It probably wouldn’t hurt them then.
But yeah, I’d vote for that. I’ve had a couple telemarketers on my cell phone. How did they get that number?!

Not that I don’t sympathize, but you’d have to add another amendment to the Do Not Call act, which would be to make it apply to non-profit charity/political groups too, like Dove.org. They don’t have to legally comply with the request you made.

Moving thread from IMHO to The BBQ Pit.

I know they don’t have to abide by the DNC list, but don’t they have to stop calling if you tell them to take you off their list?

What do you have against the creatures that live at the bottom of the Mariana Trench?

Not to mention it’s practically impossible to nuke anything at the bottom of the Marianas Trench from orbit.

Send them to the top of Everest instead. That’s gotta be real easy to nuke.

“You mean Everest Valley”?
“Well it is now.”

That’s so 1960ish.

You know, I’d find this OP a lot funnier if I hadn’t just gotten Another telemarketer call to my cell phone (3rd in 2 days) not 5 minutes before reading this thread. My cell phone number has been on the ‘Do Not Call List’ for Years. And yes, I reported it to the government web site yesterday. Twice.

I was briefly wondering why you were fussing at a soap company.

Then I went to dove.org.

Urgh.

If they’re a charity or political organization, I don’t believe they do. And since taking a number off their list would involve them using resources to do so, instead of making more calls, they generally won’t make the effort.

Rats, you’re right. Like I said, it pisses me off that I was hassled every week by an organization that I despise. The fact that I have to listen to a friggen’ robot for 5 minutes to get them to stop calling me really infuriates me. Maybe I can require them to at least have the dedicated 6 (Do not call again) option on the first menu for all robotic telemarketers.

Ugh. The sign of the apocalypse. I just got my first cell phone telemarketing call last week.

This is correct, unless there is a third-party solicitor involved. Since you don’t know if there is on any given call, and they might respect your wishes anyway, it may be worth it to you to request removal.
