Bryan: Your first posting on the current incarnation of this board related to martinis in Bond movies and was a blame sight better than this thread’s OP.
Ah, but there are three continents: North America, South America, and Soviet Canuckistan.
You seperated when you made that crazy Francophone your Prime Minister.
Meteorshower, me dearie, you need more important things to worry and rant about. I’m with Ekers - who cares?
nice form, nice style, good grammar and spelling - subject was lacking. give it a 6.
-Canuckian immigrant
Shouldn’t that be “gun-crazed extreme-patriot self-loathers, eh” ?
Bryan: In case you’re wondering, your first Star Trek related posting was #6.
And that posting is also a far cry better than the OP of this thread!
Lessee here, now.
Giving generously of my own benefit of doubt, we gots:
Sense of humor. Specifically, abilty to laugh at self.
Shows actual ability to both read and comprehend rules and regulations of board, including use of off-board resources. Also shows cognitive ability, realizing ahead of time that many members of the board will read her posts, and she’s not just ranting on an LJ to her friends.
Of course, the rant itself was weak and admittedly half-hearted, though I don’t see this as a crippling strike against her. She’s also French-Canadian, and most of my in-laws are of similar stock, so again, bad*, but not devastating.
All in all, I’d say we got a winner here, friends an’ neighbors.
So, welcome to the boards, Meteorshower.
*[sub]For the severly humor impaired, that there’s jest friendly ribbin’. I’m not actually stereotyping the OP, my French in-laws, or French folk in general.
And seriously, welcome to the boards. Enjoy y’self.

Meteor showers are boring. Why would you want to be associated with boring dumb junk? I feel like a big man now.
Hi Meteorshower,
I’m glad to see you’ve gotton a “warm” welcome from some of the usuals.
Anyhow, your post made me laugh, because I can relate.
See you around!
This thread embiggens us all.
Meteorshower, are you really Ghyslain Raza?
Love the vid!
This just in from the jury:
4/10 for effort
1/10 for content
(and 7/10 for obviously lurking before first post) - Welcome, I think you’re gonna fit right in.
Deep down, we’re all Americans in the making.
Just ask one…
Only joking!
As Bryan Ekers noted, it’s ultimately much ado about nothing. It’s just a word. It’s only as important as you want it to be.
Adanacians? tsk As any Anthropology student can tell you, we are the [url=“http://www.msu.edu/~jdowell/miner.html”]Nacirema Tribe.
Hmm, speaking of which, I need to consult with my holy-mouth-man in a few months …
I have heard denizens of the USA referred to in French as Etatsuniens, but as someone else pointed out that’s no better since our neighbors to the south are the United States of Mexico.
Possibly she was thinking of Central America.
Monty: just had a quick question on this: is this the typical split of North & South America taught in the US?
IIRC, in European teaching, North America is classed as Canada, the US and Mexico, then South America begins from Guatemala/ Belize down. Is this another little ‘variation’ the pond has caused? Just curious.
I like the OP. It’s aware of the vagaries of the board, is sarcastic and vaguely amusing.
BTW, Meteorshower, I use “USians” on the SDMB to describe Citizens of the United States of America, though some of them feign incomprehension.
I liked the OP too. Quite a good newbie post. Bit of a laff.
Nice job, newbie. A hearty welcome to the board!
With Quebecers sharing the space, it’s comforting to know that Americans hardly win the arrogant and unruly contest by default. I have them about a dead even entering the 21st century, but another big secessionist push could inch Quebec ahead.
