Since I’m back I might as well try to answer this.
American is huge and filled with 280 Million people. Even if only 5% of them were “ignorant and backwards” you’d get 14 Million people. To say that the US produces masses of ignorant backwards people is ridiculous. The US continually produces some of the most impressive academic achievements, political thought, business acumen and incredible knowledge of the Greenbay Packers (pre-Farve) on the planet.
Welcome to the boards proccy. You’re in a good place to get interesting answers to just about anything. You may want to try to reword your original post though.
Part of the reason you may feel that way is that predjudice is psychologically self-reinforcing. When one holds a predjudice against a people, race, or culture, one tends to take note of observations that reinforce that predjudice, and discount observations that would tend to undermine that predjudice. Since you already hold the belief that Americans are backward and ignorant, you unconsciously look for evidence that validates that belief, and discount evidence that diproves it.
