During one of the commercial brakes they had the Mustang commercial with the Mustang that changes colors as it goes past the different people. I tried to Shazam the song on my phone and was surprised that it just came up as American Idol 2012 (or something like that). Not just that, but it came up very quickly. Much faster then it normally takes to recognize a song. Tried it in the next commercial, same thing, and the same thing with the commercial after that. At first I figured they just struck a deal with Shazam so that if anyone tries to ID that song, it would come up as AI, but I was surprised when it did it during the other commercials as well, even if a song wasn’t playing.
Then when AI came on again, I was surprised to see it kept happening, it happened when someone was singing, when Ryan was talking even when it was just the audience applauding. It even happened if I just let shazam get a very short sample. And, as I said before, it pegged it much faster then it typically does when it’s trying to ID a song.
My question is, did AI put some sort of inaudible to me, but audible to a phone signal across their entire broadcast (including the commercials) so that if anyone tried to Shazam any part of it it would just come up with that instead?
BTW, here’s the song from the Mustang commercial.
