That Interceptor looks like they tried to take the Chrysler 300 up another notch. Since I think the 300 is ugly, the Interceptor isn’t working either. They both look like they would have very poor visibility. I like safety features, but it’s better to not use them.
That new Camaro on the other hand looks very sweet. I’ve also liked the looks of the new mustangs. It makes me sad that Oldsmobile is no more and we won’t see an updated 68-72 442 or Hurst/Olds.
That fucking thing looks like it was designed by Frank Gehry.
Seriously - what’s with the skewed, asymmetrical lines? That new Camaro has absolutely nothing in common with the classic design, which looked amazing because it was streamlined, simplistic and mean looking at the same time. All those unnecessary bulges, humps and lines do nothing to make the car look faster or sleeker, and the diagonal lines of the grill don’t even up with the curved lines of the body at all. I think it’s a design disaster.
Well it is just about the exact same size as a Volvo S80, since it is a Volvo S80 platform. So I am not sure about your large car comment. It is not designed as a compact this is true, but let’s look at some if it’s direct competition
Less than three inches longer than the Avalon, and less than 6 inches longer than a Maxima. Not quite a barge.
As far as the engine and quality go, I suggest you drive one. Seriously, I was way impressed when I had a Five Hundred as a rental. I expected a shitbox like the previous Tarus/Sables were. I was blown away as how good this car was. I was prepared to hate, it and what Ford had done to our patfrom. Instead I walked away a fan.
The Mustang also says Ford on the deck lid, yet they sell like hotcakes. Both are Fords. Neither of them is the fastest /best handling /best gas mileage cars in their segment. Both are larger than some other cars in their segment. Both have Ford engines in them.
So what is the difference other than the Mustang is stylish, and the Five Hundred looks like it should say Kenmore on the decklid?
I think design really does matter to almost everyone who buys a car. Your car kind of says something about you. The VW New Beetle sold like crazy despite being just another shitty VW. People could have bought more reliable econmy cars, but they didn’t look as cute.
The Interceptor looks to me like a modern-retro thing with an aggressive attitude. You should maybe wear a zoot suit in it and be sure to bring your tommy gun to the drive-by shooting. Despite the “real cars for real Americans” b.s. in the article, I doubt very many “real Americans” would want this vehicle. I would never even think of buying one. It may be a reletively good seller if and when it comes out, but it would really only be a niche player like the Escalade. It wouldn’t stand a chance in hell of selling like the Camry or Accord.
