Sometime I wonder why people love the confederates so much. I can understand people that have a long history in the south and who had many ancestors who fought on that side, but I don’t see what so many non- and new southerners see in them. Its funny most of the die hard Confederates I’ve met have been for the most part yankee transplants. Maybe they think they have something to prove?
As kids, all the boys on my street would play civil war fairly often in the park. I had this friend that always play the south. Whenever we would ask him why he would always go on this tangent about southern heritage and northern agression. What was weird was that his parents where third-generation Poles who moved to Texas from Chicago a few months before he was born. I talked to him recently and he’s still the exact same. He’s even developed this phoney southern accent despite the fact that neither his parents nor the majority of people in our neighborhood had one.
I knew another guy whose parents were Italians from New York who had a big dixie flag on his pick-up. I asked him why and he went on the same tangent as my friend. Its like the moment these people cross the mason dixon line they all the sudden switch sides as if its some kind of requirement to live in the south. I don’t understand the attraction these people have for the rebel cause but I think it probibly has something to do with the Dukes of Hazzard.
As a kid, I always played the Union. I knew a winner when I saw one
