I was talking to Ivan Pecel last month (he was the juggler last season who got into an argument with David Hasselhoff) and he said that the whole show is totally lame behind the scenes. Some of the acts in the “auditions” were fakes who were asked to be there for comedic value of how bad they were, etc.
I know that the show is supposed to feature acts that have already realized their potential and need the exposure, but I think that, in the right hands, Butterscotch could become a major talent. Sure, she has some rough edges, could use some intensive voice training, and desparately needs someone to guide her decisions, but the potential is there.
Terry Fator, though, shows what can be done with twenty years of practicing and working on whatever circuit exists for ventriloquists.
Well, the final votes have been cast - I think it’s between Cas and Terry for the $1M. And I’m fine with either of them winning. Cas has been my favorite since his first audition (scha-right!). I thought Terry’s act wore thin in the middle, but he has impressed me with his versatility and put me back on his bandwagon.
I thought the final four were all deserving - fourth spot was a toss up for me between Country Cruise Ship and the 14 yr. old.
So what would the judges have “selected” for Sideswipe had they made it through?
I like Butterscotch, think she is very talented, but beat-boxing is not going to appeal to a wide swath of the public and she won’t win. In a perfect world Terry Fator would win.
I don’t see the Butterscotch talent. Blake Lewis from American Idol could beat-box rings around her. And when she sings, she’s only average. When the judges gush over her, it makes me wonder if someone in the marketing department decided that she’s the most ‘bankable’ contestant, and have asked the judges to play her up to help her get votes. Because I just don’t understand what they’re seeing that makes them go ga-ga over her.
There seems to be no middle ground with her. People either love her or hate her. I’m in the latter camp. I hope she doesn’t win.
I kind of hope Cas wins, simply because I think Terry Fator is set whether he wins or not. I’ll bet he’s already got offers from Vegas. He’ll be headlining there before you know it. But Cas is the kind of guy that could easily wind up back home playing in bars again if he doesn’t win the million. He’ll probably get a shot at a record, but the odds of it being successful are very slim. He doesn’t package for the youth audience, he sings a style that’s not very commercially marketable, and he’s too nice a guy. The suits in the record industry will eat him alive and spit him back out from where he came. So I hope he wins the million.
But truth be told, Fator probably ‘deserves’ it more. I’ve never seen a better ventriloquist, ever. There are other good singers around who can match Cas.
Does anyone know what the format of next weeks show will be? Will they bring back some of the other acts to perform what would have been their final four performances? Will last year’s winner make an appearance? The one thing I do know is that The Hoff will be performing - I can’t wait for that!
Bianca Ryan won last year fair and square. She was the most talented person on the show, no question. And she was only 11. This year’s 14 year old isn’t a tenth as good as Bianca was, and she’s three years older. There’s no way she’ll win. It’ll be either Terry Fator or Cas Haley. The dark horse is Butterscotch, because she is the one who will pick up the urban youth vote.
Of the final four, I’m absolutely for Terry. In my opinion, the show should have put an outright ban on all solo singers. There’s already a show for that, it’s called American Idol and it’s not going anywhere soon. None of the singers would have made it to the finals on American Idol, they’re just not good enough. I was really annoyed that the 14 year old made it through because of that reason and the country guy was rightfully sent home. I’m willing to give a pass to Cass, though, cuz he’s not really American Idol material. Same with Butterscotch, although I don’t really think she should have made it this far, anyway. I’m still upset that they sent home the Calypso Tumblers home a couple weeks ago… they were just amazing, and they kept Sideswipe instead? How long can you watch a bunch of guys posing on stage?
Watched the rerun Saturday night, and wish the black guy had made the finals – not hip enough, I guess. (Though how hip is Terry Fator?). Julianne is so far out of her league it ain’t funny – I can only hope that she and Butterscotch split the vote-skewing teenage girl contingent enough to make sure either Cas or Terry wins.
Any predictions? I’m so looking forward to tonight – or at least the last five minutes of it …
I missed the intro to Lazy Legs & Crew and thought he was just using the crutches for his acts- and even then I thought he was incredible. When I realized “No, he really is crutch-dependent” I was floored. This guy’s incredible with absolutely no concession whatever for his “disability”.
