AmEx cars and credit reporting

I just got me a shiney new American Express card. This is the kind that you must pay off every month, not a credit card per se. Since I am a Good Upstanding Citizen and always pay stuff on time, I want to know if AmEx will report my good behavior to the credit bureaus, since they’re not really extending “credit” as far as I can tell.

Cause if they do, then I can improve my credit rating and get discount concert tickets. :stuck_out_tongue:

friedo I think that if you’re a good upstanding citizen and always pay your bills on time then you already have a good credit rating.

However - if you don’t pay your AMEX it will negatively affect your credit.

Depends on what kind of AmEx Card you have. The AmEx Blue card is a true credit card: all charges are payable over time. The AmEx Green, Gold, and Platinum cards are charge cards: all charges are payable in full monthly as billed (although each card also offers a “flexible” extended-payment option for certain charges, usually for travel-related and other big-tcket items). But the credit-reporting agencies do not observe the distinction between credit and charge cards and will take both kinds into account in scoring your credit, so paying your charge-card accounts on time will bolster your credit and paying them late will damage it.
