I’ve been noticing this in links to news articles: increasingly, there is “.amp” at some point in the url. I’ve noticed it in CBC, CNN and BBC links. What does it mean?
It means that news provider has produced a version of the news page which is optimized for the Google Accelerated Mobile Page framework.
The “amp” version of the news page is designed to be quicker to render and more compatibile with Google’s news aggregation software.
In other words, it’s a Google-friendly version of the news page.
