When did it become the norm for arm amputees to stich up the empty sleeve from elbow to shoulder? And why was it done in the first place?
Because an empty sleeve might get in the way and it would most certainly look rather silly moving in odd directions as you go about your daily routine. As to when it became the norm I imagine it was the first guy who lost a limb and still needed to get dressed.
If I ever lose an arm or a hand I want people to call me Stumpy or Lefty. The beautiful part about Lefty is that it works for anyone regardless of which arm or hand they actually lost.

Is that a norm? I have a good friend who is an arm amputee and she just sticks the empty sleeve into her pocket to get it out of the way.
