This is getting overplayed. I don’t like long delays on a plane or a train, but as far as trains go, I’m just relating the stories of others. And as I said, if you don’t mind waiting, then why not? I think the OP got the spirit of it, be prepared to spend some time, and if that doesn’t bother you, go for it. You end up in Nawlins, the trip ends with a good time.
But’s that’s just the point. You latched onto anecdotal accounts, possibly decades old and not even your own, to express an opinion about what the OP should expect on his or her trip. Why not advise the OP to never visit New Orleans in September because there’s a chance the city will be under water? Hey—I’m just relating the stories of others.
Did you read my whole post? I expressed a cautionary note, and then suggested the OP go ahead and do it. Do you guys work for Amtrak or something? I’m not the only one that mentioned the possibility of delays, so what’s the big deal? You’re trying to make an argument where none exists.
ETA: and my initial caution expressed as my opinion of what I would do, not suggesting any action by the OP.
I am flying down to New Orleans on Sept. 28th for a quick visit, as there is an incredible benefit show at Tipitinas that weekend, featuring several of the Crescent City’s most beloved piano players in a tribute to a local musical icon, Henry Roeland Byrd, a.k.a. Professor Longhair. If you have no plans for Sat. 9/29, you might want to consider checking it out, if you are a fan of N.O. Funk and/or Boogie Piano.
It is sure to be an exceptional night of music for a worthwhile cause!
Also, one of the coolest things about the Crescent into NOLA is that you go through some of the above ground cemeteries. I thought it was a really neat introduction to the city.
