But then what do you call muffins?

But then what do you call muffins?

We call them “muffins” too. We usually distinguish them by flavor - chocolate muffins, blueberry muffins, etc.
Maybe they’re using bugs from Maine. See this thread.
If you’re Stateside, try to find Guinness that was made in Ireland. Unless you go WAY out of your way to find the Irish stuff, its all Canadian (“Imported” is displayed prominently) brewed.
I once took part in a market research focus group that was using us to gauge their new spin campaign for a well known beer imported from Italy. They apparently wanted to move production to the US but wanted to keep ‘Italy’ and ‘Italian’ in the marketing literature and televised ads.
Examples: “Finely crafted in the Italian brewing tradition.” or “The taste of Italy in every sip.”
Swiss cheese from Ireland.
I actually started a thread on this…http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=279933&highlight=swiss+cheese
Evidently the Swiss didn’t put a lock on this and any number of countries can make it and call it Swiss cheese. Who knew?
I heard a radio ad driving through Lafayette, Louisiana recently – for Cajun Clear Mountain Spring Water, “from deep in the heart of Acadiana.”
Only problem is, a mountain in Lafayette would be no more than maybe a mound of dirt six feet tall. If that. I nearly drove off the road at that one.
