For at least a couple years now, I’ve had this idea for a patriot collage, that is partly the song America (aka “My Country, 'Tis of Thee”) and God Save the Queen. We (the US and UK) have so much we share in common–our language, our court system, NATO. Why not celebrate what we share?
Of course, someone would have to arrange it. But I have a couple of ideas of my own. It could start with God Save the Queen and America’s first verses. Then the collage could be completed with verses that, I at least think, seem almost universal in what they represent (brotherhood, rights, etc.).
From God Save the Queen, this could be found in the verse added in 1946 (to replace the more militant one before):
For America, this one seems appropriate:
It’s up to the arranger. But I think the “Our fathers’ God to Thee” could go last, as a kind of final note. It is totally a matter of creativity though, I think.
So what do you all think of my idea? And if you think anyone would be interested in it, get them involved by all means. (BTW, I think the proceeds from this song should go to charity.)
