An Apostrophe to the Gum-Chewing Siren at My Left

You said “do do.”

Fuckin’ A.

I thought for a second you called Eve urban. Has anyone got a link to the sexy picture of Eve with the legs?

Eve, please don’t leave the boards again because of this! We Eve Brigadiers can’t go through that again. :frowning:

(Incidentally, the linked post that said the “Miracle on Ice” made it okay to be proud to be an American again was richly deserving of the snark it got, and then some.)

It is always interesting to open up the first page of a BBQ Pit thread, read a few of the posts that seem to fairly tame. Then open up the last page and see where it gone sideways and upside-down and try to imagine what went on during those 100 or so posts inbetween.

Geez, that’s like ripping back and exposing several layers of whorehouse wallpaper.

“Above the pale”? Is that an actual expression? I know “beyond the pale,” but I don’t think I’ve heard anyone use above before. Of course, I can’t think of anything better at the moment.

Oh, and eve is eve. It’s her prerogative to look down on the rest of the great unwashed masses, and we accept it, as she’s witty and clever. I’m not sure how well I’d get along with such a person in real life (assuming that she acts exactly the same as her SDMB persona), but it’s great to read her message board posts. And if she posts an insubstantial rant in the Pit, it is (to me) a worthwhile read, even if not exactly overflowing with vitriol. Maybe MPSIMS would be more appropriate, but the hue and cry raised here by GYBRFE was far over the top, and really didn’t even need to be said publicly. It’s not like the thread title didn’t make it clear that this was going to be about chewing gum.

Also, I appreciate someone using the word apostrophe to refer to the rhetorical device of addressing of comments to people not present or to animals and other objects incapable of understanding them. Something I engage in quite often. But almost noone is familiar with the word for it.

It’s like this: **Eve ** represents the high-mannered aspect of our society that demonstrates that just because you’re polite doesn’t mean you have to be nice.

There’s certain things you don’t do in polite company. You don’t curse, you don’t scratch yourself, you don’t clear out your throat or erupt into other loud bodily functions, and so on. But there’s a certain art to expressing your disdain and scorn that’s more pointed and barbed than any rant or single curse could accomplish. It’s also timing: being able to mutter the breathy zinger while somebody’s swallowing their tea and making them almost choke.

That’s just Eve’s style, and if you object, well then really!

Y’know, that’s exactly what I did. I only read the first 20 or so posts, then, just now, noticed it got to page 3. “Hmm,” I said, “how in the world did this get to page three?”

I still haven’t decided if I’m going to go read the posts I missed, though.

They are mostly about pie.

Blueberry pie and ice-cream! It’s the most wonderful pie I ever tasted!

You silly guys, quit messing with him. They were about sex - the hottest, freakiest monkey sex you can imagine.

I beg to differ – rhubarb pie is the best. And none of them strawberries innit, either.

Wow, an American who appreciates real rhubarb pie  I have told you I love you haven’t I?

Amen! Who came up with the stupid idea to ruin rhubarb with strawberries? It’s as vile as putting raisens in rice.

Rhubarb crumble is delightful, but strawberry-rhubarb pie is no slouch, either.

Raisens in rice pudding I can do without.

Oh, and Rilchiam’s bullshit is the stupidest thing I’ve read on the SDMB in a long while, which is quite something given the diarrhea leaked oftimes leaked here.

Raisins.

With an i.

I can’t believe I copied someone else’s typo.

:smack:

No, you’re not, and in doing so I discovered she’s precisely 20 days younger than my son.

Not recently (pouts).

We had a patch of rhubarb in our garden when I was growing up, and springtime was RHUBARB PIE TIME!!!

I assume you also insist on a properly woven latticework top crust?

That or a good rhubarb crumble  Can only get rhubarb and strawbery pies arround here which just don’t taste right.
