While I will agree that it probably doesn’t rank quite quite as high on the odd factor, a few years back I attended quite the unusual wedding.
Ceremony conducted by a wiccan priest. Wedding party all dressed in traditional viking garb. Much of the wedding party staying at an indian casino. A swordfight (the groom had to defeat the bride’s champion, to prove him self worthy of being her protector). Ceremonial drinking of mead. Aaaaaand… the bride and groom both changed their last name to “Rafngaard.”
They come from the more interesting side of my family. This summer, from that same batch of folks, in lieu of getting married, my cousin is having a “tree-planting ceremony” to celebrate her non-marital commitment to her boyfriend.
