An August Bitching (Heat and Humidity)

Or if you’re in Houston, 80+ degrees.

This has been the most beautiful summer weather-wise in my memory (currently living in central Ohio). July never got above the mid-80s and it was mostly upper 70s-low 80s, with enough but not too much rain. A few normally hot days now are fine. My banana tree is topping 7 feet, the cannas are in full flower and the vegetable crops look good, especially if I can catch that hyperactive groundhog (I’m hoping Mrs. J. will roast him for our anniversary dinner).

For those annoyed by August in New Jersey, I recommend moving to Anchorage, AK. Round about now they’ve mostly seen the last of the 70s and sweater/jacket weather has arrived.

My corn has just silked out on some stalks. I’m sure it will pollinate, develop and ripen fully in the 2 weeks we have before it freezes. Good thing we only had a week of heat around 90F this summer. I don’t have to worry about bushels of ripe tomatoes either, because after months at green stage the rodents are eating them all off at about a peck a day.

Jennshark, you should try to get to the beach while you can. The breeze makes it about 10 degrees cooler until about Rt 35 or so.

The average high here in July was 104.2 (from NOAA). This month is still triple digit heat, and we’ve had no rain in months.:frowning:

I just want to exercise outside! I’m sick of the treadmill!

I can’t breathe. The fan, it does nothing! I knew we were spoiled for June and July but all that doesn’t matter in the moment that is now. That is hot. That is un-air-conditioned, that is my office. I can’t breathe.

I love it. I’m in central Alabama, and I’m taking my students on a 5-7 mile hike Thursday, in the middle of the day, over rough terrain! Won’t they love me?

Excellent username/post combo there, Ogre.

I am loving the soft August nights filled with the sweet and gentle music of the cicadas.

I’m with all you humidity haters, can’t wait for Oct. I must say though for some reason we don’t have any mosquitoes this year. Can’t figure that out since we had two months of rain.

Yeah, you know it’s too freakin’ hot when the cicadas sing at night.

I’m in Houston, and the AC went out here at work yesterday, and is still not fixed. I went home early yesterday, and I’m leaving early today. They’re “waiting on a part.” Even if they fix it this afternoon, it will take overnight to cool this huge building! It’s 85° in here and rising.

: faints into a pool of her own sweat::

Local conditions:

Time: 9 AM. 77 degrees F. 90% humidity. Gasp!

When I got up around 6 this morning, I could barely see outside of my window due to the condensation. Granted I keep my AC running all night, because it is way humid all night, but there was so much water on my window I thought it was raining. Nope, just humid.

I guess I better go run my errands before it gets any hotter.

I got up at the ungodly hour of 6 AM so I could come in early and leave early before the deathly hours of 4 to 6 PM in this office.

Now I’m grouchy from getting up too early, and still too hot. But, it’s early home to the A/C!!

Thursday, 7 AM

98% humidity.

78 degrees.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: There’s only one reason you should get out of bed sweaty.

sigh I just had my first hot flash … definitely not my favorite reason to get hot and sweaty just laying in bed watching tv. Well, I lied, I am thrilled about the hysterectomy … but no regular means of getting hot and sweaty for like 4 more weeks :frowning:

Gaah! Lemme out of here! I’m in Maryland for a visit and it is humid as fucking hell!

I knew I was going to hate the weather. I also now know exactly how spoiled I am living where I live. Only a week, I can do it…
