Back in the 80s or early 90s I read a fascinating book about ancient Egypt. It was an oversized trade paperback in which the author observed that people have the idea that the Egyptians had been obsessed with death, but actually their funeral rituals showed how much they loved life, and wanted to continue it in the next world.
The book was illustrated with a good many engravings from 19th Century sources. There was also a spooky double-exposure photo from the 1800s of archeologists inside the great pyramid of Cheops.
Reproduced in the book was a nearly complete Egyptian horoscope. It listed every day of the year (with a few missing where the manuscript was tattered) and had a brief listing for what would happen to a person born on a particular day.
There was also a list of the hieroglyphs corresponding to the letters of the alphabet.
I’ve since lost this book and can’t for the life of me remember the title. Searching for it I’ve turned up a tremendous number of books, but none are the right one. I regret my description is not more complete. Can anyone suggest what the title of this book is?
