Breitbart has an interesting article on the alt right here.
I need to read it again, but it piqued my interest in helping me understand the American right.

And that’s why they nominated Trump.
Well, they certainly outmaneuvered the Establishment types. Which makes the alt-right brighter than them. Which is why they’re dangerous.
OK. Take conservatives, throw out all but the youngest, hippest, brightest ones, and that’s the alt-right I guess? Oh, but also ignore the bigots hitching a ride on the coattails of all the hip memes and newfound spotlight.
“Milo Yiannopoulos is a senior editor for Breitbart.” – Also the guy who got banned from Twitter for a deluge of horrific racist and sexist comments towards a black actress, right? They left that part of out talking about how the Alt-Right is so brilliant and smart.
Article reminds me of a David Frum piece I read yesterday which was actually a letter sent to him from a Trump supporter. The gem was in this final paragraph:
Bolding mine. Racists, misogynists, MRA advocates… but brilliant people, really.
A few of them ARE brilliant people. They’re the ones laughing the loudest at the rest of them.
That’s why they can feel The Donald’s pain at how the stress of business is just as bad as that of losing a son in combat.
Its not about brains, its about feelings. They feel Trump is speaking to them even when some of them know Trump is lying to them. They follow him simply because he tells them what they want to hear and they are ok with that.
They have to be feared because in the civil war between Republicans, they are winning and have been for a few years, but luckily many of them are not smart enough to realize they can be baited easily. Speak up for women, mock MRAs, and say masculinity is overrated and they will fly off the handle.
Hillary Clinton just brought these people to national attention.
I think she did this to try and box Trump in. Trump seems to be trying to pivot to the center on immigration and race relations. I think what Trump is doing is not so much trying to appeal to Hispanic and black voters, but appealing to white voters who don’t want to vote for an overt racist but could be convinced to vote for someone who pretends not to be a racist. Clinton’s speech is an effort to preempt this strategy.
It’s interesting how some conservatives, specifically those who never trusted Trump from the get go to govern sanely, let alone conservatively, actually seem to be taking a good close harsh look at the people who make up the core Republican constituency, especially since many of the ardent Trump fans have been lambasting them in their own special way. (Google Image search prominent National Review writer Jonah Goldberg for an example.)
Reading RedState and NR, seeing them actually echo things liberals have been saying about some conservatives and conservative pundits and media sources (specifically the ones who jumped to support Trump) has been kind of hilarious. I kind of doubt it’ll lead to any sort of change in thinking, for them or the politicos, but it sure is a lot more hope than I’ve ever felt before.
Don’t you have to succeed in order to be a success? Getting Trump nominated is only a success if he wins the election. If not, the alt-right only out-maneuvered themselves and helped Hillary Clinton become President.
What I fear is that this is just foundation-building, and that they’re preparing the groundwork for future assaults. After all, Trump ran once before, and failed miserably. This time, he got the nomination. Next time, his successor might win. Movements can build, over time, and a movement like this could be extremely damaging to America and the world.
Perhaps this would be a good time to take a closer look at the OP’s article - it’s co-author, Milo Yiannopoulos, is being accused of scamming his followers out of charity donations.
Last January, Milo started a scholarship fund called the Privilege Grant. The scholarship was available purely to white males. They were going to start taking applications in the spring and then award scholarships of $2500 each starting with this fall semester. The director of the fund
Instead, the “director” of this fund is now claiming that all the money was transferred to Milo’s personal business, Caligula Limited. As evidence, she tweeted a photo of the wire transfer instructions, which can be seen here -
The business, Caligula Limited, has since been dissolved. Where the money is now is anyone’s guess.
Privilege Grant’s website has announced that they missed their deadline because:
“The initial flurry of interest in the Privilege Grant, and my skyrocketing media profile, left us behind on logistics. This was compounded by our previous administrator leaving the team.”
They have a new admin now, they say, and will begin a pilot program for the Spring Semester, with the full program kicking in next year. But I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Dangerously bright!
Caligula? Better than Dracula, I suppose, but not by much.
No, I think this election shows that people like Trump are a dead end. The Republicans will go back to nominating people who might think the same as Trump but are willing to conceal it long enough to get elected.
There’s something at once hilarious, poetic, and brilliant about scamming white supremacists in this way. I almost approve.
The only good thing about an organization filled with detestable people is that they are more than willing to turn on each other.
The SPLC has a good piece on the Alt-Right.
Interesting to note that CNN refers back to the very article that inspired the OP in order to explain the alt-right…with a sprinkling of criticism added.
Both good reads.
So…they’re clever but unwise, like baboons clever enough to fire battle rifles?
