Maybe he placed a trap outside, possibly along a garden walkway? Pebbles, stones, gravel, that sort of thing. Didn’t the Apostles wander about the Old Wrold spreading JC’s message? The way to God, or the path to God?
The notes that he had remind me of Henry Jones from the “Indiana Jones” movies. When I read that bit about the 12 Apostles, the first thing that popped into my head was “only the penitant man will pass”.
It, um, reminded me of the Crypt of Riddles module series for AD&D Neverwinter Nights. :o
I guess if this was a younger man, it’d only be a matter of time before some media people tried to connect it to Myst/7th Guest/11th Hour, and similar games.
Spoiling the joke - Henry Stauf was the antagonist from the computer games 7th Guest and 11th Hour. He was a deranged toymaker who (if I recall correctly) made toys that spread a mysterious plague among the children of the town, and after his death, his mansion was haunted, and filled with horrible toy puzzles that had similarly-cryptic clues. The object of those games were to solve the puzzles as you work your way through the mansion, and various ghosts and other discoveries would reveal what horrors had occurred there.
