An historic moment: The 1st *ever* SDMB post from Afghanistan.

Good to see you back.

I made some stuffed cabbage the other day and gave you a thought. Stay well and stay safe.

Argh. May your camel stub his toe–in a mine field.

Great pictures, Tripler! (Except for the sartorial omission.)

Don’t make me contact a superior.

Cool pics, dude. It looks a bit chilly. Stay warm and dry, and let us know if there is anything we can send.

What I would love for you guys to send would get me into hot water. But at least with that hot water I could start makin’ jello-shots.

Tripler
Yeah, I really want you to send me Jello.

Well, new photos going up right now, including one of the famed “Soviet Toque”.

Tripler
Damn, I’m one good lookin’ Communist.

Hey Tripler, in those last couple of landscape shots…

The soil looks cultivated, is that from landmine removal? It looks almost like it’s ready to plant a crop, except it doesn’t look like many crops are grown around there (of course it’s winter now and all).

TIA

The landmines around here are far too “randomized” (thanks to the Taliban and NA), and who would want to re-spread them neatly into acreage sized fields again? Typically for hand demining, you gently stack them together in one small pile, and dispose of them (usually by putting a demolition charge on top of the pile and blowing it all at once).

I’m fairly certain they’re crops. Of what, I don’t know. . .

Tripler
I think the rows also have something to do with irrigation.

Not that you could be even half his weight, but in the Toque you remind me of John Candy from Stripes for some Reason. Good Shot. Planning to borrow an Urban assualt vehicle for a night out?

Jim

Sorry, I don’t make the rules, I just enforce them…

Cite?

Yo, Comrade Tripler, you got E-mail incoming.

You rock, Tripler!

Mr. Ruby spent 12 months stationed at FOB Salerno near the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. They had many nights where they would have a fireworks display for the bad guys.

Be safe and Godspeed.

Hooaaaa

Now, THAT looks like one gentleman ready to face the elements in style.

I know there are “rules” for this sort of claim, but I’ll politely challenge you to this: I’ll defy you to find another post from the ground inside Afghanistan–and I’ll wager a bottle of whatever beverage you prefer on it. [sub](I’m not trying to be an arsehole. I just don’t think you can actually do it. )[/sub]

Thus being, I’ve taken some “nice pictures” but nothing conclusive. I’ll see if I can find a sign or two that actually say “Afghanistan” on it.

Ruby, I was just talking with a guy who comes in and out of FOB Salerno yesterday! He was saying the same thing: it’s still “hot”. He was looking to see if I could come out and do a runway assessment.

JRDelirious, I may be an infidel, but dammit, I know how to shcmooze the burqas off the ladies.

Tripler
That wagered bottle is gonna have to wait at least six months. :smack:

Trip, we are serious about the “If you need/want/desire” anything. If it can fit in the mails and the Powers That Be won’t confiscate it, it’s yours. Just say the word.

By the way, my department chair was tickled pinko about the chance for a multi-platform flag. My stock has risen significantly…thanks!

As I frequently remind the three Lieutenants working for me:
[Belloq]
“There is nothing you can possess, which I cannot take away . . .”
[/Belloq]

I’m working on it. Unfortunately, I can’t promise, but I am working on it.

Tripler
I’m really not that bad to my Lieutenants. . . usually.

Understood. Thanks count anyway.

My DOR was 15 August, and I sewed on in October. I haven’t decided on the name change, since my old one has a certain legacy to it (as it were).

Anyway, keep warm, stay safe, and keep us posted, Sir. I’m glad to hear that you’re well.

I guess we’re both “airmen” in the grand scheme of things. So, I wouldn’t change it.

Just do me a favor: drink more beer. I hear the brewing industry has been in a tailspin since I left. . .

Tripler
[Homer]Mmmmmm. Beer. . .[/Homer]

Not me. I stood up, saluted and then banged my shoe repeatedly on my computer desk. Thanks Trip, it’s absolutely all I hoped it would be.
