I’m starting a thread idea I haven’t seen in awhile. After reading Marines vs. Army and seeing that DryFreeze just got back from the sandbox, knowing that AirmanDoors is a reservist, and that UncleBill is a Devil Dog, I got to thinking [sub]and today it hurts[/sub]. And since the last thread I remember was better part of a year or so ago. . . [sub]like, where’s ChiefScott?[/sub].
So, hey, military Dopers (active/reservists/retired). . . Where are ya? What was your MOS/AFSC? What are ya doin’ now? Where ya plannin’ on going [sub]OPSEC within reason[/sub]? American, Canadian, Swedish, Zimbabwean, it doesn’t matter–if you work for a government paycheck in the profession of arms, drop a line.
Me? USAF, 819 RED HORSE, Malmstrom AFB. Going overseas in a bit. . .
Tripler
I’m curious! I figure we’ve got more military Dopers than we know.
Kansas Army National Guard. 75F2OR3 (SIDPERS). Since I work for the state command, I won’t be deployed anywhere during combat unless I’m reassigned to another unit (hey, it happened in Desert Storm). The most that would happen to me would be activated and sent to the local AFNG base here in town to help deploy troops, or I could be sent to Ft. Riley to backfill vacancies left by AAs.
Formerly Active Army (8 years), Army Reserves (TX, 3 years), now KSARNG (5 years, 4.5 more to go to retirement!)
IRR Jarhead here (they haven’t taken the ID card back yet).
7204, Air Defense Officer (Stinger and HAWK Missiles), active duty 1988-1992, Reserves off and on until almost 5 years ago. MCAS Cherry Point, NC on active, NAS Marietta, GA for Reserves. Former PWST OIC, NAS Topsham Annex, ME as well. They call me MajorBill sometimes.
Former Army grunt. Got to take 3 trips to the sand box in the early 90s. Shield/Storm with 3AD and then Intrinsic Action and Iris Gold with 1CD—I was glued to CNN for the latest, does that count?
Just graduated with a BA in Sociology and looking for a job that will take me out of South Dakota.
I’m a Senior Airman, Electronics Communications Systems Operator, 193rd Special Operations Wing, Pennsylvania Air National Guard, Harrisburg PA. As you know, I’ve already been overseas, and am currently (and hopefully not for long) unemployed.
2LT, USAF, 46N1, clinical nurse. I’m TDY to Lackland AFB at the moment, but my permanent duty station is MacDill AFB in sunny Tampa, along with my husband, Bluesman, who is a USAF MSgt, 1N471, signals intelligence supervisor.
Former Air Force Aeromedical Technician, ‘69-‘73. We grounded the flyboys, much to their chagrin and endless protests, when they shouldn’t oughta’ have been flyin’. Two types you learned NEVER to get on the bad side of, medics and finance people. There was a saying, “I wouldn’t do it again for a million bucks, but I wouldn’t take only a million bucks for the experience.” True.
Construction Electrician Chief Petty Officer, USN (retired). That’s the U.S. Navy Seabees, for those who have no idea. 23 years in the Navy and never set foot on one of those floating petri dishes.
Cripes, Tripler, what are you doing with that Red Horse bunch of losers? We had to bail their sorry asses out more than once in Viet Nam.
Served in the IDF from 1993-1996 - I was a draftee, but I volunteered for a combat position. Started out in 932 battalion, Nahal Brigade (infantry). Was a MAGist (machinegunner) for far too long. Became a squad leader (after finishing the course), left the unit due to a misunderstanding regarding my lieutenant’s girlfriend. Finished off my service as an operations sergeant.
My current reserve unit is 5035 battalion of the 417 (Jordan Valley) Brigade, the last light infantry unit in the IDF. I’m currently a squad leader. Since 1997, I’ve done around 3-4 weeks of reserve duty a year, with the exception of two years i spent in New York. They’ll probably keep me on for at least another decade.
My next stint is in less than a month, I haven’t got around to asking what we’ll be doing; probably more fence patrols along the Jordanian border.
From 1992 - 1996 I was a USAF Cryptolinguist, Chinese Mandarin. Stationed at Kunia Tunnel with the 314 IS.
From 1997 - 1998 I was a orderly-room type girl with the 303 FS, AF Reserves at Whiteman. My honorable discharge said I was a “Sergeant”. Which made me wonder if the Air Force Reserves still had the “Buck Sergeant” title that active duty no longer has.
That’s why I’m in charge now, and whippin’ their asses into shape. Our only hangup is them Pime BEEF pukes and their material handling system.

Hey, here’s an honest question: I went into our supply section a couple of days ago, and they were issuing seven-peaked DCU hats (for the “uninitiated” they’re Navy/Marine Corps hats). What gives? Is the Air Force going to these now?
[/hijack]
Well, I know the new proposed AF BDU, with that horrid blue/grey color scheme and ridiculous faux tiger stripe pattern (I don’t like them, can you tell?) also includes the 7 peaked hat as one of the changes. Maybe it’s part of phasing the new uniform in.
USMCR, 1994-2000
MOS: 2531, Field Radio Operator/battery powered target
Battery NCO, '95-'96, Comm Co, HQ BN, 4th MARDIV (literally, I was in charge of the batteries we used for the comm gear)
