Oh good Lord, I hate them new BDUs. I would coin the phrase “hellaugly” but that wouldn’t do any justice.
Logically, besides the ocean, there is hardly anything in nature that is blue. I don’t undrestand where the hell they think a partly blue uniform is going to help/hide us. . .
Tripler
Blue nametapes are easily hidden. When I look like a guy from the Blue Man Group tho . . .
I haven’t talked to anyone who likes them, but no matter what you hear about this just being in a “trial phase”, I’ll bet a year’s salary that we are getting 'em.
And I don’t understand where exactly we are supposed to be blending, either. If there’s a threat to Sea World, maybe…
41J10 in the Army Reserve 310th LEM from 80-81
52D40 Army from 81-92
I sit around a lot now.
Pvt. in US Army. Delayed Entry Program (awaiting to graduate high school this semester). MOS: 91W (Health Care Specialist). I leave for Ft. Knox for Basic on July 13th and have my AIT at Ft. Sam Houston.
Thank God for flight suits.
I’ll try not too laugh too hard at you guys. After all, you’re officers. You wouldn’t be able to tell whether it’s the uniform I’m laughing at or not.
USAF 1993-1997
3C0x2
I was a programmer for the DMSP ground system. It was an interesting job, and I learned a great deal while I was in.
I’d never go back, but I’d never give up the experience of having been in.
Red
Wow, Redwing, Young Tiger is just headed off to Keesler AFB Monday morning at 12:01 a.m. to start his tech school for 3C0x2. No idea where he’ll end up eventually, but at the moment he’s the proud possessor of one stripe on his sleeve (and a new DVD player to while away the bus ride with).
I have around 15 or 16 months for my RL situation to allow me to enlist and get the hell outta this town.
US Navy from 1986 - 1992. Got out as an E-5. I was a Cryptologic Technician Interpretive (Russian)…that is, a spook. I spent most of my time riding around on subs and skimmers and flew a few P-3 missions. Through a strange twist of circumstance I found myself in the Persian Gulf yacht club during Shield/Storm.
Sometimes I wish I’d stayed in…damned Russkies couldn’t keep the Cold War going.
When I found out you had enlisted, it was a trip for me.
Army Guard. Medic, first in an infantry unit, then an engineering unit. The MOS was 91B, though is now 91W. Volunteered for a couple Joint Task Force things, one of which got me a brief tropical “vacation.” No combat or anything. After coming back from PLDC, right around the time of my ETS, they asked if I was ready to be a sergeant and I said I’d rather be a civilian. Enough had just become enough, but I’m glad I was in. Currently I’m a fulltime college student who switches majors every other semester.
Oh, Daoloth, good choice on MOS and good luck to you! As far as military bases go, Fort Sam ain’t that bad. I look forward to your Ask The New Medic Thread so I can see what has changed and what has remained the same.
Soldier Medic, Conserve The Fighting Strength, Hooah, and all that.
Just a poor little AF brat here. Did a year of AFROTC, but had to quit for medical reasons (damn lungs). Had to post, my dad is CO of the aircraft maintenance squadron at Keesler. I run into a lot of the tech school guys in the video game aisle of the BX
I guess that means that at least after the first phase, the tech school guys ARE allowed their video game stuff? He’ll love that! (Young Tiger is my not-so-little-anymore and definitely-not-a-baby brother.) Fortunately we can just throw the stuff in the car and take it to him.
former 21J, Combat Engineer officer (USAR) here. Spent most of my time in training assignments working with drill instructors, but got out in the field when I could. I got out when my first kid was born.
