Fascinating how everyone is apparently pushing for “fancy” over “functional.”
If I had a prosthetic limb I’d mainly be concerened with if it made nananana sounds while in use (with a preference for “yes”). But having looked at the article I’m seeing the appeal of having multiple attachments like Trap Jaw from He-Man. Although I’m thinking the hammerhand fails to grasp the concept of mechanical advantage.
You might look at Viktoria Modesta who uses a variety of artificial legs including a spike. See https://viktoriamodesta.com/
Thanks, that’s really interesting. And I can completely see how you’d be better off with a prothesis that you can attack a hook, or a pad, or a simple clamp, or a fin to than you would be with a fancy programmable thing that has 5 fingers.
The song Footloose is in my head now.
Once upon a time, I remember a story about a guy who was looking into the highest-techest bionic arms and hands. But it turned out that all he wanted to do was play the saxophone again, so they built him an attachment to do just that.
