Doesn’t the fireworks boy look like Trump?
While we’re on the subject of old Mad cartoons, there’s one I could use again when the subject of censorship comes up (which is frequently nowadays), but I can’t find it.
It starts with a single, multi-panel strip showing a baggy-pants comedian and his dummy trading jokes. In the following episode are all the letters the paper received complaining about each joke as being offensive to their group.
Next is the censored version of the same comedian&dummy routine with all the offensive material cut out.
All the balloons are blank.
It was in an early (1955-1965) Mad I think. I have the complete Mad collection on DVD, but I can’t zero in on this story. Anyone?
Have you tried checking the tables of contents in the issues of that period?
Except he pays for the firecracker.
Nice.
Yeah, it took me to the Google search page.
BTW MAD Comics changed to magazine format with issue #24 in 1955.
I remember a parody of Dick Tracy where they had his little “Crimestoppers textbook”, but called it something else. It depicted a simple burglar alarm, a board with spikes to be placed under the window, and a burglar mid scream with the spikes sticking out of his foot.
Since I can’t remember the artist or a name of the series, it’s hard to scan an index or contents for a particular drawing.
