An Organization called Impact Forum (?!)

I found out a friend of mine is being sent by her mother for a weekend seminar by the Impact Forum…supposedly it will change her life. Another friend of mine did some research, and found out that they have been around for about 20 years.
They also do some really interesting stuff. I started this thread to find out if anybody knows anything about it. Here’s what I found out.
They call the first day of the seminar “breaking day” They force people to stand up in front of a large group and confess every bad thing they’ve done, and to say every bad thing that has ever happened to them. They completely get torn down in front of everybody. That is followed by two hours of solitary confinement to “find themselves.”
The next day they “rebuild” them. After totally destroying their sense of self esteem and self worth, they rebuild them around the club. They make people dependent on that organization.
From that point on you are asked to attend regular meetings, but you cannot tell anybody about them. It’s all very secretive and hush hush. There are some other things that I have heard, but this is the gist of it.

Considering all of this is the truth, what could be the possible psychological effects?
If the possible effects are negative, should the mother be stopped from sending my friend there? My friend is very trusting and will do anything her mother asks her to do. But she’s also very sensitive, and we’re concerned this could damage her emotionally.

We doubt we can stop her from going, but we’d like to prepare her for what might happen. I realize that this could just be exageration from disgruntled former members. It happens to every organization and religion in the world. But wouldn’t it be better to be safe rather than sorry?

How old is your friend? If she’s over 21, and still making huge commitments like this because her mother tells her to, she’s definitely too vulnerable for what you descibed.

She’s 17…that’s one of the major reasons for concern.
