Hi everyone! I remember first stumbling upon this site when I was kneed deep in a freshman year freakout for college http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=723390 <—It was a pretty stressful time. But for what its worth I feel like I owe this site a sincere thank you for pulling me back down to earth. I was considering dropping out, changing my major, and even joining the Navy and being done with college all together. Today I’m happy to report that I’m in my senior year of school for my geology degree, and even picked up a second major in Liberal Studies! I cant say my math problem has been necessarily “fixed” (Was bad at calculus then, and still am :o ), but nonetheless I’ve learned that unlike I thought way back when, that its not the end of the world.
I’m slated for graduate school to get my masters, and have had promising talks with The University of Tennessee and the University of Vermont which makes me feel pretty confident that I’ll be going somewhere for my masters (a thought that a few years ago would have never crossed my mind.) In general I’ve only come to this site for advice usually related to college woes http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=789965 <– Like my very first roommate issue which almost went nuclear. But looking back on it all this site and all of you wonderful people have really helped when I needed it. There have been many sleepless stress filled nights quelled by the advice and reassurance that I’ve gotten here. One of these days when I’m out and about in the professional field I’ll probably come back as a regular poster with a lot more life experience under my belt, but until then I’m perfectly fine saying that if not for The Straight Dope I probably would have been up multiple creeks without any hope for a paddle. Thanks guys, it’s been a wild journey, but the hell of undergrad is coming to an end, and a new chapter is beginning.
