An update on The Advocate

In this thread, which got horribly hijacked, I tell about how I’ve been leaving my old copies of The Advocate in the breakroom at work and how they keep disappearing.

This past week, the magazine lasted almost a whole day before disappearing. However, I did see a group of four women thumbing through it before it disappeared on Thursday. On Friday, this same group was in the breakroom and one of the group was actually looking for it and disappointed that it was gone.

I feel good that perhaps I’ve opened up someone’s world a little.

Another update.

Whomever is tossing the issues has gotten less circumspect. The magazine seldom lasts a full day before it can be found in the trash bin beside the coffee maker. The location seems chosen to ensure that the pages are soiled and cannot be recovered.

:frowning:

How about putting a sticker on it? “Please do not throw away”?

Narrow minded people SUCK!
sorry, I just have a problem with people that do sh1t like that.

Homebrew, are you able to leave a new copy whenever one gets spoiled and put one conspicuously at your desk so someone can take it? You might be able to slowly foster a pro-gay (or pro-acceptance, or something) environment where you work.

Laminate it. Then you can just pull it out of the trash, wipe the coffee off, and it’s good as new.

Or do what they do at the library and attach a broomstick to it.

Buy an X Cam and use it to find out who is throwing it away.

Good for you!

The Advocate is a good choice! (I used to write for them.)

I like the broomstick idea. If it doesn’t work to stop the perp, then I have it handy to shove it where the sun don’t shine.

If you shove it just right, the sun will shine.

LOL! You guys are nasty!!

Seriously, I cannot see what anyone’s problem with that magazine could be, unless they are so set in their worldview that anything purporting to change their minds on issues they’ve developed their own mythology about is a serious threat to their beliefs.

We buy it on a regular basis (not every week, thanks to the money crunch), and I read it faithfully. Barb (whose “special issue” is the lack of resources for the poor) occasionally looks at it, and reads articles I flag for her attention (e.g., the Hilary Swank interview with the background story on Brandon Teena, and the Ian McKellan story).

I wouldn’t be too concerned; your co-workers must know that if they want to find the Advocate, they can find some of the information from it online here.
