Here’s one for the SDMB hivemind. I could use the anagram server, but this might be more fun.
Earlier on, I reset my desktop PC password. Just after typing it in for the second time, I became distracted by… something or other I can’t remember; which explanation seems to be related to my current problems.
I turned the PC off, drove my wife to meet friends at a restaurant, came back, turned the PC back on, and realised that I had forgotten utterly my new password, and am locked out. Nor can I remember my admin logon.
So here’s where the SDMB can help. I know the following criteria about the password:
[ul][li]It’s a real word.[/li][li]It’s more than five letters long.[/li][li]It can be typed with the fingers of the left hand on one of those Microsoft ergonomic keyboards. That’s the following letters:[/li]QWERT
ASDFG
ZXCVB
[li]I’m fairly sure it avoids X and Z, and obviously it avoids Q.[/li][/ul]
It’s not AWARDED, REWARDED, CREATED, RECREATED, RECREATE, or DRAWER.
Way too many common words meet this criteria for us to be of any help. Just a quick search through Lexpert comes up with ABASE, ABRADE, ABATE, ABRADE, ABREAST, ABSCESS, ABSTRACT, ACCEDE, ACCESS, etc. Any other clues? Max length? Duplicate letters? Triplicate letters? Verb? Noun?
As far as I remember, there were no adjacent double letters. I suspect it might have had at least a T and an R in it. And there’s bound to be at least one E.
I just know this will come to me in the middle of the night. I think I’ll go to bed with a notepad and pen by the bed.

Alas, rather than providing me with amusement, this thread has in fact only increased my frustration. I’m going to give up for now, and hope the somnolent inspiration route yields results. Otherwise I’m going to have to do some hackin’ shit, or reinstall (and thank my lucky stars that I backed everything up on an external hard drive just the other day).
I doubt a mod would care enough to close this thread, but if anyone is in the vicinity, you may as well.

I was gonna guess sweetbreads, but then I realized how silly I am because I thought this was just a fun game, and not **jjimm **actually being locked out of his computer.
Well OK, TellMeI’mNotCrazy since I’m back on my computer, and happy again, how about making it into a game: what’s the longest genuine word one can make with the left hand on an ergonomic keyboard?
