Anasthaesia for fetus pre-abortion

:smack:
Who said anything about arguing for abortion in gerneral on this basis?

I’ve seen medical programs on PBS, TLC, Discovery, Discovery Health, etc. where experimental surgery corrected defects in the unborn; pre-natal surgery. Things like spina bifida and tumor removal. Anasthesia is provided to the mother, and the operation begins as soon as the anasthesia passes along the ubulucal cord to the fetus.

In this case, who is the patient…the mother or the fetus?

Late-term abortions generally involve the ‘birth’ of the fetus. They are not physically mutilated in-utero, and administering an anaesthetic would involve as much ‘pain’ to the fetus as the procedure used to bring about its termination I would imagine.

Says ENOLA STRAIGHT:
“…Anasthesia is provided to the mother, and the operation begins as soon as the anasthesia passes along the ubulucal cord to the fetus…”

Says KAMBUCKTA:
“…administering an anaesthetic would involve as much ‘pain’ to the fetus as the procedure used to bring about its termination I would imagine…”

Enola, meet Kam.
Kam, Enola.

If you are “pro-life,” you are anti-choice (politically speaking that is). Period.

If you are “pro-choice,” you are not neccessarily “pro-abortion.” I’m a perfect cite for that.

I detest abortions. From the first moment of conception through birth - I hate 'em. In fact, the only thing I hate worse than abortions is…

wait for it…

A Government with enough power to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body. I love freedom. I love the USA. My freedom from an oppressive Government is WAY more important than the issue of abortion. Not even on the same page.

SKID ROW–

The only suggestion I’d make–and it’s more in the way of a clarification–

the liberty of the woman with respect to “her own body” need not be taken to imply that the foetus is a part of her own body (though you may believe that).

It’s an incursion upon such liberty to compel the woman, under threat of force or penalty, to undergo the process of giving birth. That degree of governmental power is, in and of itself, to be feared.

If a pregnant woman is getting IV Stadol 2 mg or Demerol 100 mg, I can see the baby’s heartrate variability drop on the monitor. To me, this means if mom gets a dose of analgesic, baby does, too.
