As we all know, the ancient Egyptians were very conderned about the preservation of the bodies of the dead. They practiced an elaborate mummification ritual, which was intended to preserve the body from decay and destruction-once preserved, the body was enclosed in multiple coffins and buried in hidden tombs.
This was because the Egytians belived that the immortal spririt of the dead (the “ka”) needed to return to the body, periodically.
What did these people thing would happen if the body was destroyed? Was it a second and final death?
No, I think it a matter of the ka becoming homeless with no body to return to. Might lead to one pissed off spirit.
“Second and final death” would be failing Ma’at’s test - your heart being weighed against a feather, and if found heavier, you would be eaten by a crocodile. THAT would be a second and final death.
