Feel free to check out the rest of the Mudflats blog entries–just to see how the locals up there in AK feel about this whole thing–there’s some hilarious stuff there, tres “Northern Exposure.”
Since it’s been such an issue this election, meet Sarah’s pastor! He’s a gem! He khows exactly who’s going to hell and who’s going to heaven–just like Santa Claus, only scarier!
Uh oh, in spite of all that in depth vetting McCain’s campaign did in the two weeks since he offered Palin the job via cellphone, it looks like Troopergate isn’t gonna be as “minor” as people figured, better get all obstructionist on their asses! I like it that the state Senators involved in the investigation make it very clear that NOBODY from McCain’s camp bothered to ask them anything–not even “hey, how’s that investigation thing going? Anything we should be worried about?” Now THAT’S what I call VETTING!!
But it’s all good because this proves McCain’s “maverickiness” and that’s good, right? Not everybody thinks so… (may require free registration to view full article, salient portions available in this DailyKos story)
Is anybody seriously still defending this woman as a viable candidate? Really?

ETA: Sorry for the kinda [del]double[/del] triplepost, the board’s timing out and there’s actually more info in this version so I’m keeping it in… at me and the board, too!
I’m not sure I can defend this position, but to be honest, I would have serious reservations about voting for anyone who attends an Assembly of God church.
I think I need a cigarette. That’s just … awesome.
My favorite part:
Heaven forfend! Subjecting a candidate to questions? How could anyone have even thought they’d allow such a thing!
Apparently ‘not asking questions about Sarah Palin’ is getting to be a habit for the Republican elite. I cannot fathom how this woman made it past McCain dreamily thinking, “Y’know, Cindy’s not always gonna be travelling with me. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a sweet piece of ass at my side during the campagin trail?”
I agree thoroughly with the assessment of Palin as Georgina Bush. Same incuriosity and ignorance (her lack of knowledge about the war our country is fighting, for a start), same creepy closemindedness, same attempts at “tee hee I’m just a regular Amurrican!” bonhomie. Scary.
Much as I think she’s an unqualified pick, that rag didn’t even get the info correct in the headlines; I’d dread to think how they skewered the facts within the actual story.
Per a NY Times article, McCain has canceled future appearances on Larry King Live “as punishment for what his aides said was an unfair interview of a McCain campaign spokesman by the network host Campbell Brown on Monday night.”
Unfair treatment? Anyone see it? What happened to the STE?
Brown kept asking the spokesman over and over again what specific command decisions Palin had made as “commander-in-chief” of the Alaskan National Guard. The spokesman was unable to come up with anything other than “well, she was in charge”.
Apparently asking follow-up questions is now unfair. LOL.
They’ll run anything, as long as it’s a story–and now the low information voters will have the low information pandering magazine story their little low information hearts desire. The 'pubs didn’t vet this woman, they didn’t realize what a hot potato she was (apparently too wrapped up in how much of a hot TOMATO she is!) and her skeletons came flying out of the closet so fast they couldn’t even duck. What tabloid mag could possibly resist this story?
Guess the followup can be the nice little item about how she slashed funding for a project that helps teenaged moms with a place to live and life skills so they can raise their babies with some sort of competence. Pretty hard to deny that one–it’s in her own handwriting. And all this while her state was rolling in unexpected money from the oil prices going through the roof, but Gov Palin wanted to just divvy that money up and give it to the citizens directly instead of, you know, taking care of state business. Guess unwed mom houses aren’t as vote generating as outright giveaways.
There’s nothing sexist about calling a spade a spade. Just like Hillary wasn’t called a bitch because she was a woman but because she was a bitch, Palin isn’t being called out as a bimbo because she’s a woman, but because she’s a bimbo. Do you realize that this is at least the second woman you’ve accused of having a sexist bias against Palin? Do you really, deep down believe that Dems don’t like her because she’s a woman? Give me a break. They don’t like her because she’s unqualified and getting by on her looks. Let me tell you, that pisses off women like nothing else. Palin is benefitting from chauvinism, not suffering from it. There are easily a couple of dozen more qualified Republican women than Palin who would not be getting these kinds of labels. I guarantee you, someone like Kaye baily Hutchinson, or Olympia Snowe or Christie Todd Whitman or even Condi Rice would have been respected by Dems – not agreed with, but respected. McCain choosing Palin over far more qualified women because of her rack was a supremely sexist act. Conservatives crying “sexism” at every criticism of Palin is not going to work – especially not when it’s women you’re calling sexist.
I swear, I don’t remember when I’ve seen this level of misogyny on the SDMB. Calling her “princess,” and “cupcake,” referring to her as “Miss Wasilla,” claiming that she was selected because she “has a vagina,” questioning her committment to her family. I am disappointed in the progressives around here, I truly am.
It is a ridiculous statement to say that she has gotten by on looks. PLEASE cite some evidence for that other than 1) she’s successful, and 2) she’s attractive. Otherwise, your statements are only a reflection on yourself.
My cite is that she’s quite obviously underqualified, and that there are a boatload of Republican women who are vastly more qualified than Palin is. Some of them are even social conservatives. I can’t see any advantage she has over those women other than her looks. The sexism card is not going to work. Everyone knows that’s fraudulent.
