Soooo… The epitome of MPSIMS
I’ve been sitting on my butt since 9:00 this morning, earning $17.50 an hour to bask in a climate controlled server room, surf the net, and listen to CD’s, waiting for the programmers to kick it in gear and resolve the application/database problems that is keeping me from testing the new Biztalk servers.
Jealous yet?
Don’t be. I’m so freaking bored, I could just spit. And not just any old ‘bored,’ but bored out of my freaking skull bored. By 11:00, I had hit all my favorite websites and read all the news. By 12:00, I had read all the SDMB threads that had caught my interest. Then came 10 rounds of Freecell. I actually won 7 rounds. Next was MSN gaming. That got old pretty quick. Thankfully, I was nominated to go on the lunch run, so that got me out of the office for about 20 minutes. Now, I’m back to sitting at my desk, reading more threads, (thankfully I had already finished lunch by the time I opened the ‘zit thread,’) and waiting….
And waiting….
And waiting…
The phone rings…. Ooohh, I get to run some of my test files. Did they work? No.
Back to square one for the programmers.
I sit in my server room. Everyone else wonders how I can deal with the dull roar that these machine produce, but it’s blissful silence as far as I’m concerned. No one else is around, the programmers all reside in a different building, so it is just me and my machines. Which is just fine with me. They don’t expect a constant stream of conversation, they don’t have attitudes, they don’t care that I came to work in sweats and an oversized T-shirt, and for the most part, they are cooperative, peace loving entities.
And I can reboot them if they even look at me sideways. Nothing says attitude adjustment like a hard boot.
As for me, I’m going to catch up on some paperwork I suppose. My eyes are going buggy staring at this screen, so I’ll give it a break for a while….
And keep waiting…
