And John Kasich makes 16

So will Kasich continue until the convention or shortly drop out?

Kasich just said “Until we have 1,237 we do not have a presumptive nominee, California here we come!”

What a douche.

Kasich says he’s staying in until Trump actually hits 1237, which means California and the end.

I for one actually think he should stay in for the last few, if only to gauge just how much anti-Trump feeling there still is among the GOP base. What if Kasich actually won California and denied Trump 1237? Seems farfetched(Predict places the odds at 5%), but not so unlikely as to not be worth trying.

Wouldnt’ Sanders be a douche as well?

Kasich is continuing to run as a very remote possibility to become the Presidential candidate.

Sanders is continuing to run to influence the Democratic platform and the future of the Democratic party in a progressive manner.

It really doesn’t matter, does it? Nobody’s paying any more attention to him now than they did before.

Also, Kasich is mathematically eliminated from a majority of delegates. His only shot at the nomination is if he can get enough to force a brokered convention and then get the votes there. Of course, even if he forces a brokered convention, he’s not getting the nomination as he’s proven he doesn’t have voter appeal, if they chose someone other than trump it would be someone else. His goal isn’t to be president, he’s playing spoiler and perhaps for a VP nod to whoever might get the nomination in the brokered convention.

Sanders, even if it’s an outside chance, hasn’t been mathematically eliminated and can still get a majority of delegates before the convention. Even still, regardless of what people think about his politics, I don’t think very many think he isn’t sincere, so I also agree with you that he’s holding on for ideological reasons as well and hopes to push the Democratic toward his policies.

Yeah…It seems to be time to run with rather than against Clinton.
The earlier it starts the better the prospects will be.

The RNC will be meeting in a big city in Kasich’s home state, a state no Republican has never won the White House without. By this point, he probably just wants to be VP (unless he’s convinced himself that Trump is a sure loser in November).

Kasich is dropping out today.

Let the real drama begin.

I am somewhat surprised at Kasich dropping out. What is the downside of him staying in?

A lot of work, travel, expenses and embarrassment. What’s the upside?

Exposure and free food.

What embarrassment? His stock can only go up from where he is now.

His campaign funds are apparently drying up, that food isn’t really free. And why does he need more exposure? When you have zero chance of winning and no big message to promote, there’s just no reason to continue. If he really wants to stay in the public eye he’ll accept the VP slot.

Maybe he realized that dropping out was the only way to get anyone to notice that he was actually still in the race.

Updating this thread Kasich not only joined and dropped out of the Presidential race, but also now:

Talk is cheap. He doesn’t really want to run as an independent.
