And just why the fuck is there only one Taco Bell in Boston anyway?

No, as I pointed out above to erislover, there are two Wendy’s in the Downtown Crossing area, plus one in Back Bay.

As for why, perhaps with the cost of living in Boston rising, there are fewer of us working folks to eat at cheap fast food joints. If there’s one thing the downtown area needs even less than more Dunkin Donuts, it’s luxury condoes. At least we can be certain that pulling another West End is politically impossible these days.

Taco Bell? Shouldn’t you Boston people be snarfing up the beans and cod?

New from Taco Bell, this summer only:

The Bean & Cod Burrito!!!

I should add, the Bean & Cod burrito mkes as much sense as the 2 dollar Lobster roll from McDonalds, which is another summer time New England treat. Shudder

More proof that everything is bigger in Texas:

Combine 2 measly restaurants? Big deal. Here we put 3 under one roof. The ever popular KFC/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut trifecta.

There are several of these in the Dallas area. The local nomenclature for these is “Kentucky Taco Hut”.

mmm…south Troy tacos. They close the dining room too early, though :frowning:

Going by Troy standards, yes. But by Boston standards, you count yourself lucky if something’s open past 8:00 PM. Remember to appreciate the very few advantages to Troy: the Taco Bell, the late hours (Denny’s, 24 hour Chopper, I Love NY), the cheap pizza, the lack of concern for public intoxication or open container laws, ummm… errr… the view of the Hudson, maybe?

Of corse, you may have just graduated, and don’t need to pretend that it doesn’t suck anymore.

Nope…actually, I just signed up for another year, thanks to grad school.

Oh, and if you’re biking along the Jamaicaway tomorrow, and you find a hubcap for a Plymouth Acclaim on the side of the road, it’s mine…oops.

Huh, and meanwhile here in Fargo freeking North Dakota, we have at least three Taco Bells and about as many Taco Johns.

And I hate em all.

Del Taco came to this town
With their little Orange shakes

Peepul avoided them like the plague
now they are Los Tacos.
Trying to make another comeback this year
Added glitzy drive through

Lotsa specials and cheap deals
Maybe gonna make it.

Tho they still lose out to the real winner In 'n Out..

Oh, hey In 'N Out burgers are king (never found a Fatburger, but I’ll be in San Diego in a week so I’ll keep an eye out). But burgers versus tacos… no contest, IMO. Tacos rule.

Hmm, there’s a whole state full of them right next door. Even if, for some bizzare reason, you don’t like Tex-Mex, there are still plenty of “real” Mexican food restaurants in Texas. Hell, Fonda San Miguel in Austin is one of the best interior Mexican food restaurants outside of Mexico.

I’ll also chip in and say that Taco Bell is not Mexican food. At all.

What? Where? I only know of the one in Downtown crossing, and I’ve never seen one in Back Bay (although I don’t spend anywhere near as much time there as I used to). I gotta confirm this.

  1. Washington Street, between Bromfield and School (approx. 315 Washington St.)
  2. Summer Street, between Chauncy and Kingston (approx. 71 Summer St.)
  3. Boylston Street, across from Copley Square, next door to Burger King (approx. 555 Boylston St.) (had lunch there today)

Dammit. A rant about Boston, and I dont have anything productive to add.

OOH! I do have something. I keep seeing Sonic commercials on TV, but haven’t seen any since I was in Florida…anyone know of a Sonic ANYWHERE in Mass? Hell, Im ready to drive back south for one of those burgers…

(sorry to hijack yourthread Water…)

Sorry Pammi, according to the Sonic website (well, 3 months ago, when I checked) they don’t have them anywhere north of PA.

Bastards, taunting me with their food.

Ah - brings back so many memories of shopping in Boston. Go to the store. Assuming the store security wasn’t doing it’s fun trick of keeping customers at least 5 feet away from any merchandise, find the item that you wanted or were looking for. Hunt around for someone, anyone to give money to in exchange for the item. Commiserate with other shoppers from sane regions of the country where stores and store workers were at least vaguely interested in selling things or providing services to customers. Wave handfuls of cash and credit cards around in the hopes that it would attract a salesperson. Realize that the store in question had blown its entire employment allotment on store security, ruining your idea of just leaving the cash on a counter and walking out with the item in question. Finally, find someone with a key to the cash register, who despite obviously not having done any work all day long is still surly and nasty at having to be bothered to take the cash from you. (Or, have them snidely tell you that you should be glad that some other item (not the one you wanted) that costs twice as much as the thing that you wanted in the first place and that no reasonable human being would ever substitute for the original item in question is in stock and that you’re getting anything at all.)

I am so glad to be the hell out of that city.

When my cousin visited from Mexico, I brought him to a Taco Bell just to see the reaction. (I expected some self-righteous harping).

He liked it, but he made some comment about their “elephant tacos” - which made me sort of stop going there…

Its funny, where I live middle class visitors from Mexico like to visit places like Dennys, and Furrs, Lubys, and Wyatts (plain roastbeef, turkey, pea and mashed potato cafeteria food). I think that is sort of exotic food if you are not a Unitedstatian.
