This was a video e-mailed from one of my boys over in the desert. Camel spiders aren’t as bad as some say, but I’m damn glad we don’t have those fuckers over here.
Nasty. Did you see the one where the soldier ate a camel spider?
Yike.
I wonder how big it was. IWBN if there had been a ruler in the video.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Dear sweet Jesus! WHY did I even watch that?! I KNOW better. I had to see it, though. I don’t know why I had to see it, but for some strange reason, I just had to. I don’t know why I do these things to myself.
Mommy.
In the begining frames, there seemed to be a tortoise shell, so you can use that for visual reference. I’d say the “spider’s” (closer to a scorpion, really, or a vinagaroon) size is about an 8" spread. Big enough to be super-icky, but if you told an unsuspevting viewer that it was chomping on an iguana …
Bwa-hahahahahaha!
According to a few internet sites on the Camel Spider—which, while an arachnid, is not actually a spider at all—the upper limit on their size is a leg-span of about 6 inches. They are not poisonous, relying on large, strong jaws to subdue and kill their prey.
There’s a Snopes areticle on them here, and a National Geographic piece here.
Amazon Goddess, I thought I remember reading that you actually like spiders… but maybe that was somebody else…?
I do…but not those ones!
I’d like to see one subdue a lizzard. That would be some interesting viewing!
I saw the thread title and I said, “Diosa, don’t open that thread. Don’t do it.”
But I opened the thread.
“Diosa, don’t click the link. Don’t. You’re going to scream. You’re not going to be able to sleep for days.”
And I clicked the link…
Can’t sleep, camel spider will eat me
Can’t sleep, camel spider will eat me
Can’t sleep, camel spider will eat me
Can’t sleep, camel spider will eat me
It’s eating a crocodile.
You are SUCH a LIAR!!!
...that's clearly a komodo dragon ;)
I have an abhorrent fear of spiders. Everything in me said not to read this thread. After reading the posts, I knew I shouldn’t click on the link.
I did.
I think I peed a little.
Thanks for no sleep tonight…
I can’t get this thing to load. Why would that be?
Me neither. The gods have chosen to spare us.
Wow. If Hal is scared of this thing, after all of his genetic, er, misadventures over in that mammoth “new-ness!!” thread, then it MUST be horrifying.
And yes, I watched the video, and I wasn’t scared. If it were coming after me, I’d be scared, but right now it’s very happily occupied with a lizard. So no worries.
Dunno.
Did you try right-clicking the OP’s link and saving the file to your desktop?
It’s an avi file, so if it still won’t run you might not have the appropriate codec installed on your computer.
I use ffdshow as my codec library. Install it and you’ll be able to watch just about any video you’re likely to find on the internet.
Meh. After feeding lizards and mice to giant tarantulas, y’get used to that sort of thing.
