Easy, Cinema Paradiso.
Obligatory linkfor those that watched the movie. The rest are advised to rent it.
Basil Poulidoris’ soundtrack for Conan the Barbarian is much better than the movie. I listen to the CD more often than I watch the DVD.
Ennio Morricone’s soundtracks are always great. At the moment, my favorites are Fistful of Dollars and Two Mules for Sister Sara. A few years ago, I saw a “greatest hits” CD in a store. I really regret not buying it.
Jerry Goldsmith’s score for Patton.
I was a little surprised, myself, to see it took so long for this mention. It’s one of my all-time favorites, and probably makes me enjoy the movie more than it deserves (probably helps that I was a Gerrard/DcD fan beforehand).
Around the same time I was raving about the Gladiator soundtrack, I also watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Yo Yo Ma’s celling (I totally just made that word up) had me in fits of eargasm throughout that entire picture (score by Tan Dun). Listen on YouTube
Since I’ve hopped across the ocean, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Japan’s Yoko Kanno, who (supposedly) took a bus tour of the United States’ jazz bars as research for her work on the TV Series Cowboy Bebop – some of the best jazz to be written into any soundtrack, anywhere (YouTube and The iconic opening on YouTube). Her work for the TV series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is equally fantastic and introduced me to Origa, a wonderful vocalist in her own right. Season 2 Opening song (with Origa) and A splendid orchestral piece with piano
Clint Mansell is also one of my favorites – Requiem for a Dream sold me completely (YouTube, in case you’ve been dead for the past decade), and The Fountain just solidified his position as a complete badass in my book (and the Kronos Quartet/Mogwai are no slouches either). YouTube Again!
Apologies if this is a double or triple post… but I wrote this twice and it never appeared.

A Few Dollars More
But the best of all time goes to:
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Fantastic. I have it on my iPod and I often go to sleep with it playing. I also play it in my car on occasion. It is without a doubt the best score I’ve ever heard.
I know I’ve mentioned GBU on these boards before, but it is a great movie from so many points of view. Pretty impressive for a low budget western.
