Susan Saint James co-starred with Jane Curtin in Kate and Ally. You may also remember her from playing Rock Hudson’s wife on McMillan and Wife.
Oh yeah. I’d forgetten about THAT one…
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
You made my night. Thanks.
That is correct. The Remington Steele series had been canceled, Brosnan was approached for Bond, then NBC decided to capitalize on that and forced Brosnan to do some Remington Steele TV movies. Which meant he wasn’t free to do Bond. But it was not Brosnan trying to jump from his series. It had already been canceled.
I remember seeing Pierce Brosnan on David Letterman many years ago and he said that he returned to the Remington Steele thing because the fans did a huge write-in campaign to have it brought back. Although he really wanted to do the James Bond thing, he felt obligated (my word, not his) to give the fans what they wanted.
From the description of the film Romano intends to make once he leaves the show, it sounds as if he’s leaving a hit television series just to jump the shark in film. What a totally lame-oid premise for a movie.
That being said, it will probably be released at a time when absolutely no other funny or good movies are released, everyone will go to see it because it starts Ray Romano, and it will do eighty-squidillion dollars the first week.
This is in an interesting discussion. Keep in mind that many people who worked in front of the camera on successful shows have dropped from sight because they’re working behind the cameras on successful shows/movies. Winkler, Howard, and Marshall all come to mind. Nothing new, Zeppo Marx became a very successful agent after leaving the act.
She made some fairly successful movies after leaving Cheers, including The Brady Bunch Movie, A Very Brady Sequel, Outrageous Fortune, The Money Pit, & Troop Beverly Hills.
Then there’s the ever popular Kathy Lee Gifford, who abandoned her nice little gig with Regis to go on to… be replaced by Kelly Ripa.
