It looks like Antonio Guterres is set to become the next Secretary-General of the United Nations. Personally I was hoping Helen Clark would get the job; if for no other reason she’s the only candidate who’ve I’ve actually met (also the only candidate who’s name I recognized). Also it’s about time we a woman in office, even if the office is basically just a global bureaucrat-in-chief. Also if we ever make first contact with extraterrestrial somebody’s got to ceremonially surrender to our new overlords on our behalf.
