I can’t stand all these lame attacks on video games coming from the typical segments of the offenderatti. It’s a game rated M for mature. It’s not for 12 year olds. Will R rated movies be prohibited from showing drunk driving as well?

I was going to defend the protective orginization, until I clicked on the link. With all the things in the GTA series that are mature and illegal and immoral, you single out drunk driving? That’s like hating Bush entirely for his view on Social Security!
To be fair, it is MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving. It makes sense that they’d be against drunk driving.

MADD is one of those organizations that nobody ever gives any shite too because, hey c’mon it’s made up of greiving mothers and they want to protect kids! But fuck that and fuck them. Yes, people dying is bad and blah blah blah but these self important harpies are the reason you can get a DUI after two beers, which is crazy in and of itself. I wish someone would finally tell them to sit down and shut the fuck up.

No, but I’m willing to bet they raise a stink over any movie depicting drunk driving as a fun pasttime, or at least one that doesn’t result in the driver being arrested/causing a horrific accident.
Maybe it’s just me, but anytime I drive anywhere in a GTA game, it results in a horrific accident. I always thought that was the entire point of the game.
It’s hard not to wreck when you’re driving drunk in GTA and even if you manage to stay on the road, the cops will come after you and try to arrest you if they see you driving drunk.

You must be playing it wrong. The best part of the game is driving under the speed limit and obeying all traffic laws.

Yup. That’s exactly why Bus Driver was such a massively popular international hit.
I know a few people who were of age when drinking and driving wasn’t the horrible offense that it is today. It was still a crime, but it wasn’t going to cost you several thousand dollars or perhaps even get you charged with the fucking death penalty. MADD has been instrumental in changing legislation in the US to the point that it would be better to be arrested with a pound of crack in your possession than to drive after a few Budweisers.
They aren’t thinking of the “children”, this is revenge pure and simple and if MADD has their way there would be more blood on their hands than on those of a drunk driver that collides head on with a school bus.
Funnily enough the best part of the game for me (the couple of times I played GTA Vice City at a friend’s) was sitting in the car listening to the radio shows. Though riding the tank came a close second.

Death penalty for DUI? Your link describes a few cases in which people have been charged with murder after killing people while driving drunk. That’s a completely different kettle of fish.
