Harvey was great also, though not pompous nor douchy, just cranky.
I really enjoyed his interviews with James Garner.
I loved Craig Ferguson’s show, especially after he had Geoffrey Peterson’s “wise-ass” chip activated.
Right here. This is what I came to post, word for word. Conan’s Sirius/XM channel is my current fav. His podcast is great.
Agree 100%. The only time I shift to another channel is if I’ve already heard the segment 2 or 3 times, and sometimes not even then.
It’s not exactly a late night show, but I enjoyed the episodes I saw of Conan O’Brien’s Conan Without Borders , in which he travels to another country. meets local people and sees the country. The last one was in Ghana accompanied by Sam Richardson (an American actor whose mother was from Ghana).

Tibby:
Best Family-Oriented, Self-deprecating Humor Host: Johnny Carson (Carson’s Tonight Show also had the best house-band).
Best Intellectual Wit and In-depth Interview-style Host: Dick Cavett.
I agree with these two. Also, people used to come on Carson just for fun, not just to push their lasted work.
I’d rate them, in order:
Johnny Carson
Early David Letterman
Conan O’Brien
Dick Cavett
Craig Fergusen
Late David Letterman
Greg Gutfeld
Jimmy Fallon
Jimmy Kimmel
Watching my laundry cycle
Steven Colbert

Somewhat related question…is The Chevy Chase Show that aired in 1993 still considered to be the absolute worst attempt at a late night talk show or have been there worst attempts since then?
I only watched one or two episodes of it back then. I was 15 and thought it was adequate. I guess it really was just poorly received.
Certainly Magic Johnson’s show had to be worse.
The Magic Hour is an American talk show hosted by basketball player Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The series aired in syndication from June to September 1998.
Soon after its debut, the series was panned by critics citing Johnson's apparent nervousness as a host, his overly complimentary tone with his celebrity guests, and lack of chemistry with his sidekick, comedian Craig Shoemaker. Before Shoemaker was chosen, the role was offered to Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel. Both rejected the role as the...
I don’t think even Chevy stole that distinction from the disastrous Jerry Lewis Show in 1963 which cost ABC $12.5 million for 13 episodes before being canceled.
In addition to Magic Johnson’s flop, Pat Sajack surely deserves a mention.
The Pat Sajak Show was an American late-night television talk show that aired on CBS from January 9, 1989, to April 13, 1990.
The show was hosted by Pat Sajak, best known as host of the game show Wheel of Fortune. To do the talk show, Sajak left the NBC daytime version of Wheel, but remained the host of the syndicated nighttime version he is still hosting as of 2023.
Sajak's announcer and sidekick on the show was Dan Miller, his friend and former colleague from their time working together in th...
Here’s something from the “feud” - a video from Sarah Silverman, who was dating Jimmy Kimmel at the time.
