Normally, I don’t get a lot of amusement out of poking bozos with a stick, but I make an exception in Mr. Hyde’s case. It’s simply hilarious the way he gets all puffed-up and self-righteous as he asserts his moral superiority, while inadvertently revealing the total vacuum of humanity at his core. I keep hoping that, if prodded sufficiently, his head will swell and rupture like the bad guy at the end of Big Trouble in Little China.

(and I live in the Midwest and hear it often, btw). I don’t see a reason to ban such phrase–that’s a mod call. Believe me, it’s no compliment to have it directed at you-it’s much more a perjorative. It also can mean being part of the conservative, royal or reactionary political party(according to my Random House College Dictionary here on my desk). I think that fits him to a Tee, no?
I apologize if my poking fun hit some of you the wrong way, no offense was intended. I find the phrase to be most helpful in dressing down pomposity. YMMV.
As for Marty (I like to call him Marty, 'cause I bet that gets up his nose), I think we need him here. Like Starving Artist says, we need a lil spice in the mix. He is welcome to his opinions and I always enjoy the strangeness of his views. He’s like a magazine I would never subscribe to, but like to flip thru (yes, Marty, thru*) at the dentist’s office.
*my first negative feedback from any post came quite quickly and from Marty. I had had the temerity to type “thru” instead of tiring my fingers with “through”. That did not meet with Mr Hyde’s approval. I got over it.
I blame the schools-if we could have vouchers, none of this would be happening. She probably had a teacher who thought that trying and practice were an appropriate way to strengthen our numbers.

I’m not sure I really think they’re stupid either, that was probably a rash thing to say. Mainly Lucy flamed me for what I felt was no reason. I just pointed out that a linked article which was supposed to show that most trucker bombs come from truckers factually speaking did no such things. I wasn’t even responding to one of Lucy’s posts and he felt the need to flame and insult me. I’m guessing because he wanted it to be more like a “pit thread” since he was lamenting there wasn’t enough flaming going on. Well, since he decided to insult me I decided to give him a return.

I think I abide by the rules of this forum just fine. I think I’ve had one maybe two warnings (I’ve gotten one email) and both times were simple misunderstandings of the rule.
Just about every poster I’ve seen banned has had a long documented history of warnings and sometimes even temproray suspensions.

And I thought the “white” comment was a subtle jab at Martin (aka Marty) owing to the fact that someone like him might see the white race as being superior so he might take it at face value (“yes, I AM a right-thinking white fellow!”) when in fact the poster meant to be derisive. Sort of a layered sarcastic effect. I laughed, anyway.
Huh. I never pegged Martin to be a christian, just conservative. He just doesn’t seem all that…christian, I guess. I suppose it’s a case of following the law rather than the spirit of the law.
